New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge: Bedroom Swap!

AWWWWWWWW SNAP! The time has come for the New Year, New Room Refresh CHALLLLLLEEEENGE! (be sure to say that in Oprah voice!). 🙂

I’m so excited to welcome not only another year, but a new DECADE with another round of the annual New, Year New Room Refresh Challenge. This year is the biggest yet! I’ve invited 16 friends to join me on this journey to refresh a room to kick off the New Year. Be sure to visit each of the fantastic blogs joining me this year. We will share updates each Tuesday during the month of January and have the room reveal the last Tuesday of the month….. God willing. They are already calling for snow and I can’t go through another cycle of delivery delays.

My NYNR Room Selection!

Last year, I tackled the bold dining room which was done pretty much in conjunction with the new two-tone kitchen renovation. I shared the rooms I was contemplating on refreshing on Instagram. This year, I’m tackling quite the project. Drumroll…..

I’m doing the big room swap!

I’ve been talking about switching my son’s room for my eldest daughter’s room for a few years now. Since she is off killing it at college, she doesn’t really need the larger room. So, I decided to swap her Victoria Secret Pink themed room for my son’s neutral travel theme room.

AWFUL before pictures

Today, I want to share a bit of the before pictures and talk a little about the plans. I’ll be sharing the design board and all the detailed plans next week, however. Before you scroll down, let me preface by saying that these are actual and true to life before photos.

So what does that mean? Well, you’ll be seeing messes of clothes, curtains hanging for dear life, full on room atrocities, nail polish stains on the rugs, old ceiling fans….. I mean its a full on design catastrophe. I can’t wait to get these two spaces done already!

Pink Room into Modern, Colorful Boy Room

One of the most exciting aspects of these room transformations is the new Select Surfaces laminate flooring being placed the entire second level of the house (minus bathrooms). The outdated, stained builder grade wall to wall carpeting will be yanked and tossed out of existence. The color scheme in this room will also change drastically. I’m thinking of a light blue shade of paint, but haven’t finalized a color.

I’m a little worried about how many coats of paint it’s going to take to cover those Pink stripes. Any tips to share with me? We did this room back when Pink was 16 and it only lasted 4 years before she got tired of it. I KNEW IT! Yet, she kept assuring me she wouldn’t outgrow them, but I knew she would.

Neutral Boy Room into a Feminine, Scandi-Glam Bedroom

For Nugget’s old room, I’ll be going somewhere I never thought I would…… whites and soft neutrals! This is completely against what I would normally do, but that’s what Pink wants. I’ve tried my hardest to be accomodating to her new design aesthetic, but I feel like I’m on Project Runway and my client wants a dress totally opposite of what I design and it ends up being a hot mess!

I hopeful this room will come together pretty nicely. I’ll need to paint over yet another wall stripe and then have an idea for a beautiful accent wall behind a new bed. I’m thinking of using this peony wallpaper from Milton and King, but I haven’t ( or should I say, Pink hasn’t) settled on which to use. More details will be shared next week, and you’ll see version 5 of the design board too. Yes, 5 different versions were done!

Well I’m eager to dive right into these room transformations. I’ll be working on clearing the room, painting, and installing the flooring this week…. hopefully. This season of NYNR also has a fantastic team of official sponsors. Be sure to visit these brands to see what quality items you too can use to refresh your home this New Year!

Don’t forget to visit these other great blogs and see what rooms they’ll be tackling this month!
