Modern White Bohemian Kitchen Renovation: Reveal

It’s the day friends!  I am finally able to reveal our brand…spanking new….modern white bohemian kitchen renovation!

Thank you to my wonderful sponsors for their contributions to this kitchen including Home Depot, Blanco, Hudson Valley Lighting Group, Liberty Hardware, Samsung Home Appliances, and Boho Luxe Home for all their contributions to this kitchen!

It’s been a 6 week long journey which I have to go back and fill you up on.  I didn’t want to delay the reveal any longer.  You may have seen a few teases and peeks at the kitchen on my Instagram, but today I am happy to share the first part of the reveal.

We started our renovation a few months after the water damage that destroyed the kitchen .  We hadn’t planned to renovate the kitchen for years, but the opportunity presented itself, albeit a negative opportunity, but still an opportunity to create the kitchen we really wanted.

After some days contemplating the kitchen must haves and multiple nights scrolling through Pinterest, I designed a modern white kitchen design plan and we hit the ground running.

And 6 weeks later…… we have a brand new kitchen!  Get ready for some picture overload.

We mixed up the cabinet finishes to create an updated take on the classic white kitchen.  I don’t think anyone can argue that white kitchens just look so clean and crisp.  However, my biggest issue with all white kitchens is the lack of contrast at times.  So, I wanted our kitchen to have contrasting stained cabinets along with modern finishes to update the classic looks.  Our kitchen has become one big welcoming area for our family!  Incorporating worldly decor pieces and a mix of bohemian treasures helped keep the global vibe we love even among the modern kitchen design.

The aged brass pendant lights and wall sconces from Hudson Valley Lighting Group mix wonderfully with the modern stainless steel Samsung appliances and brushed nickel cabinet pulls from Liberty Hardware.  I love mixing metal finishes and it was so hard not to incorporate several different types.  The modern lighting fixtures hold their own among the other metal finishes.  The clear glass of the Hudson Valley Lighting Coffey pendants create such a warm glow over our long island.  Plus, we get to see the intricate details of the Edison bulbs too.

We didn’t want to extend any pipes of any sort, so we kept the sink at the same location as the last one.  The deep farmhouse style sink is wonderful for family meal cleanup and entertaining!  I can place pots and pans right in along with allllll of the other dishes from dinner.  Definitely an upgrade from the old small double basin sink.  The Cerana sink from Blanco is even reversible so you can decide which of the two sides you prefer!

The semi-professional kitchen faucet (Empressa faucet from Blanco) modernizes the farmhouse sink without going too too modern.  Blanco does have beautiful stainless steel and stone apron front sinks, but I loved the look of all the white on one side of the kitchen that contrasted with the chestnut stained cabinets on the opposite side.

I’ll be sharing all about the new smart Samsung appliances really soon, but I had to share the awesomeness of the new set today.  Switching from all black appliances to stainless steel helped brighten up the kitchen intensely…. not to mention knocking down the wall dividing the kitchen and old dining room.  This allowed all the sunlight wasted in the dining room to now be part of the kitchen.

We even had room to create a small window bench which is my favorite spot in the kitchen.  I created a comfy bench cushion (stay tuned for the tutorial) covered in the same fabric as the art in the new modern bohemian dining room I shared a couple of weeks ago.  The red and teal fabric from Boho Luxe Home adds much needed color to the white subway tiled wall.

We updated the traditional look of subway tile by placing the white subway tile in a basketweave formation.  Not only does it add modern style to the tile wall, but it gives the wall a simple backdrop pattern for the attention grabbing white stove hood and aged brass Carrie sconces.  I’ll be sharing more of the tile details and modern ways to use subway tile in a future post.

We opted to place the microwave in the island to not only keep the countertop clear of any appliances, but also at kid height.  Now that the kids are older, they will probably be starting to use the microwave more.  I also added trim around the entire island and used slim table legs to customize our island to look as close to a free standing island as possible.  The 8 foot long island is the perfect place for family meals and excellent for buffet style entertaining too!  Now I just need to find some stools that go with the kitchen vibe.

The new Lifeproof Walton Oak Luxury Vinyl Plank floors tie the entire kitchen together.  The contrast between the white cabinets and the floors is an easy way to modernize the classic white kitchen.  Plus, it helps bridge the color difference between the stained cabinets and white painted cabinets.  You can see how to install luxury vinyl plank flooring in the post I shared a couple of weeks ago.

I am so freaking excited about this new kitchen!  I just walk into this space every morning with a huge smile on my face.  I use the front door just so that I can enter seeing the new modern bohemian dining room along with our new kitchen.  It feels like a new house and I can’t believe it’s mine!

Thank you for sticking with me as I tackled our first renovation project.  It was a blast, but I definitely need a break between tackling our next renovation project.

Another big thank you my wonderful sponsors and a special thank you for supporting these amazing brands that collaborate with Casa Watkins Living!
