Modern White Bohemian Kitchen Renovation Plans

It’s the Casa Watkins kitchen chronicles part 1!  Sharing our modern white bohemian kitchen plans!  We’re modernizing the classic white kitchen with bohemian style!

It’s been a long time coming friend!  Finally, I’m talking about the kitchen renovation.  I’ve been hinting at it over on Instagram stories, but I am finally able to share the details.  The dining room makeover had been taking much of my attention.  Now that it’s all done (check out my modern bohemian dining room reveal), I’m sooo ready to dive into the kitchen renovation.

You can catch the full back story of our kitchen water damage and some of the modern kitchen design inspiration I shared before.  To sum up, the kitchen had a busted pipe that caused damage to the hardwood flooring and all the bottom cabinets around the sink.  Since we were going to need a replacement for the cabinets, we dove into a full kitchen renovation the likes we weren’t expecting.  All this happened in April of 2018 and we finally kicked off the kitchen reno this January after dealing with all the insurance issues and problems with our first contractor.

Here is a picture of the kitchen from a few years back.  Nothing has been done to the kitchen since the photo other than replacing the pendant light  and breakfast table set.  Not only is the kitchen an embarrassing mess, but I can’t deal with how dark it is.  Dark appliances, awful orange hued cabinets, and that wall is blocking all the good natural lighting.

After a bit of decor, the kitchen was looking decent but still had loads of problems.  The biggest issues we have with the kitchen is the lack of counter space, limited storage ability, and boy is it a small kitchen for entertaining.  We are huddling in what is practically a 13x10ft. square for parties and events.  Even switching up the table didn’t increase our entertaining area.

The first task was to remove the separating wall between the kitchen and dining room to create a larger kitchen/entertaining space.  This will give us the space to bring in more cabinets for storage and an island for more counter space. Whoop Whoop!!!

Working with a cabinet company made the process of designing the kitchen much easier.  I relayed my design to the coordinator and she created a composite of the design.  Take a look at my new modern bohemian kitchen plan!

I wanted the new kitchen to have a modern bohemian take of the classic white kitchen.  Using a mix of cabinet finishes and alternating upper cabinets with open shelving create a new modern vibe.  We will also have a modern approach to subway tile by laying it in a basketweave pattern.  I’m drooling over the thought of that range wall covered head to toe in tile.

There is also a balance of modern pieces with casual elements.  The casual Cerana farmhouse sink from Blanco pairs great with the modern stainless steel Empressa faucet and the planned brass lighting.

The Coffey aged brass pendant lights  and Carrie aged brass sconces from Hudson Valley Lighting group.  The smart features of the new Samsung smart kitchen appliances update the traditional look of classic stainless steel.  Of course I’ll have that modern bohemian styling I love and will add global styling elements too.

The dark oak floors will be a great contrast to the white cabinets.  I’m loving the look of this Lifeproof Walton Oak luxury vinyl plank from Home depot!  It has great wood grains and feels like real wood, but with the added benefits of being waterproof.

I’m so excited to be creating this kitchen!  I hope you find inspiration as I share our bleh to modern bohemian kitchen makeover!
