DIY Yarn Hanging Gift Topper

It’s day 6 of A Very Global Christmas and today is all about gift wrapping! I just adore gift wrapping and coming up with new ways to put a little pizazz on my gifts. Taking a little time to add a ribbon, bow, or some sort of topper makes the gift so fun to open. Sometimes you don’t even want to open it, because it looks so pretty. You have probably seen all the yarn wall hangings all over Pinterest and social media. They were and continue to be a hot trend for bohemian style home decor. I even created my own Mexican serape inspired yarn hanging this past summer. I’m taking the trend off the walls and onto gifts with this diy yarn hanging gift topper idea!

DIY Boho Yarn Gift Topper

Your gift receiver is sure to love this gift topper regardless of their age. Whether for a kiddo or an adult, placing a yarn hanging topper will bring a smile to their face. Use their favorite color or festive holiday colors to create the yarn hanging. I used pink for Chi-Chi’s gift since she can’t get enough of pink these days. Well, I suppose that’s expected for a 5 year old.

Start by wrapping a single piece of yarn around your gift and secure on the underside with tape. Loop cut pieces of yarn around the base piece in either one or more colors. Have fun mixing and matching colors too. The pink looked awesome next to the mustard yellow yarn.

Cut the yarn pieces at an angle to finish off the yarn hanging topper. I cut this one to create a triangular point, but you can easily make one single cut at an angle. Voila, you’re all done!

I bought a packet of 10 fat eight African fabrics and used them to wrap around some of the gifts. Don’t forget to use the free printable boho gift tags to label your gifts and add diy gilded grapefruit slices as toppers. They look great all together!

I also used a leather envelope to hold books and magazines given as a gift. These leather envelopes make a great gift wrapper and a present in itself. I found a few of these Hearth and Hand brand leather laptop sleeves in Target and love them! I may have to keep one for myself. Wrap satin ribbon and finish with a feather.
