Friends, if you have known me for any bit of time, then you know that my favorite thing to do is decorate a table. The napkins, plates, centerpieces…oh my! I LOVE IT ALL! So, to feed my tablescape creating desires I have a built up a small plate collection. I’ve shared several of my tablescapes before, but I realized yesterday that I have never posted a table setting based on the basics we all start with. I’m talking about basic white plates and napkins!

Modern Christmas Table Setting

When working with plain white plates, it’s important to incorporate some pops of color. The white plates and napkins can make your table look pretty plain, so it’s a good idea to bring in some color with accessories.

Wrapping ribbon around the napkin can add instant color to your table setting. Accessorize with small bouquets of florals tied with velvet ribbon for a cozy winter look.

Adding a feather can also give your place setting a casual bohemian vibe.

Speaking of bohemian, these two next ideas feature botanical elements! For modern bohemian table decor, use a gold leaf pen to trace the veins of a leaf. You can also add your guests’ name to the leaf itself. If you prefer a more casual affair, tie ribbon around your napkin and place small cuts of plants in painted glass containers.

My sisters prefer a more traditional looking Christmas table. Me, I like to mix it up. Feature holiday colors or festive items like ornaments or beads by incorporating small traces into your modern table setting. Amp up your napkin game by tying a vibrant ribbon topped with a small ornament or go for a modern glam effect with statement jewelry pieces tied around the napkin. Get the best of both looks by using beaded napkin rings on top of small Christmas gift boxes and ribbon.

If you don’t happen to have anything but a napkin ring itself, then use the napkin ring in a new way! Tie ribbon around the napkin ring then lay it on top of your napkin. You could also use the ribbon to tie around the napkin.
