Need an easy diy gift idea? Make an easy diy painted lotus flower jewelry bowl! Handmade gifts are always the best!
It’s day 6 of Very Global Christmas and Kathy of Up To Date Interiors and I are continuing with our 12 days of globally inspired Christmas ideas with diy gifts! I have to admit that I had a difficult time thinking of a project for today. There are so many things to make, but I wanted something easy and quick for those situations when we need a fast gift.
These pretty little painted flower jewelry bowls make a great gift for any occasion. Plus, they are great for those people who practically have everything. You know, the ones that you have a hard time thinking of what to buy them for Christmas. These cute diy jewelry bowls are practical and pretty!
How to Paint Floral Bowls
Before you begin painting your glass bowls, be sure to clean them off really well with soap and water. I found a set of pinch bowls at the dollar store that were the perfect size for this project.
To create the lotus flower petals, you’ll need to move your brush strokes at a downward angle, increasing the brush pressure as you move down to thicken the petal. Start with a quick pass of paint on the bottom, outer part of the glass bowl. This will create a pretty lotus flower when you look into the bowl from the top.
With the same paint color, use your paint brush to form the petals of the flower moving your brush from a fine top into a thicker pedal. Make 5-6 petals bringing the end of the petal towards the center of the flower.
Just a quick note that if you plan to have a different background color, then you should begin creating the flower and allow it to fully dry before applying the background paint color.
With your second shade of blue paint, I chose a lighter shade, add the accent highlights to your flower. Paint half of the flower petal or paint on a new set of flower petals that will highlight the darker petals. See the two options below. Allow the paint to dry and then add a few dots to the center of the flower using the back of the brush and white paint.
Not only do these cute diy lotus flower jewelry bowls make great gifts, but you can also use them as pinch pots in your own kitchen or as drawer organizers in your office! Craft a set to give away this Christmas and don’t forget to make one for yourself!
