5 Decor Items To Use Every Season: My Staple Decor Pieces
Build your global decor staple collection with these 5 decor items to use every season. I’m sharing my staple decor pieces for global boho style decorating.
For the last couple of years, my sister has been encouraging me to use the capsule wardrobe method for seasonal fashion shopping. I have to admit that though it’s a great idea, I have yet to try it! This isn’t because I didn’t want to, but primarily due to my weight fluctuations and ever changing wardrobe sizes. You better believe that once I reach my target weight I’m hopping onboard this fashion method.
If you’re asking, “Steph, what the heck is a capsule wardrobe?”
Let me quickly explain my friend.
Your wardrobe probably consists of a whole slew of different clothing, some used regardless of the season. Sometimes you buy an overabundance of clothes for the season that you wear a couple of times or sometimes not at all if you forget you purchased it. You may even have a bunch of clothes you haven’t worn in years. Mine sure does! The capsule method pretty much involves the slimming of your closet into two brackets, the basic staple clothing that can be used all year long and your seasonal capsule clothing.
Each season, my sister purchases just a few bottoms (pants, skirts, etc.) and just a few coordinating tops (blouses, sweaters, jackets, etc.). These items make up the seasonal capsule clothing. All pieces coordinate with each other and with the basic staple clothing (jeans, black pants, plain tank tops for example). You don’t overspend, have more clothing than necessary, or clog up your closet with old items using the capsule method. Once the next season approaches, you donate the apparel from the previous season to charity and create the next season’s capsule. I would of course keep some of the items that I absolutely loved, but not too many or I’m back to a clogged up closet.
So what does this have to do with home decor?
Keeping your staple items and mixing in some of those seasonal decor pieces. Not only does this allow for better usage of your decor, but it’s pretty cost effective too. Mixing a few seasonally purchased items with your staple decor pieces also makes it fun to coordinate seasonal looks.
I’ll be sharing my fall decor capsule in the next couple of weeks, but today I wanted to share my 5 staple decor pieces that can be used every season. These items make up many of my home’s looks and if you’re looking to start your own global decor staple collection then these are the pieces I’d start with.
Global Decor Staple: Moroccan Trays
One of my first crushes on global style was on Moroccan trays. They are crafted so intricately that the beauty of the tray can adorn any table or wall. I’ve had my tray propped up against the mantel, as a serving component for entertaining, and on my coffee table. This tray will work no matter the season. Check out my post on decorating with Moroccan trays.
Global Decor Staple: Hammam Bowls
Another staple global decor piece to admire are hammam bowls. They are also handcrafted and showcase just how special each hand made bowl truly is. The details and varying sizes of the bowl opens the doors for a variety of uses. Check out my post on 5 ways to use hammam bowls.
Global Decor Staple: Colored Glass Vases
Whenever I’m in the thrift store, one of the first aisles I raid is the glass aisle. I adore colored glass in any shape, but vases are definitely the most versatile. They can be used as planters, floral displays, colorful mantel decor, containers for desk accessories, and more! I’ve used colored glass vases for several of my seasonal looks.
Global Decor Staple: Plain Colored Pillows
When I decided on the general color scheme of our home, there were a few colors that would remain regardless of the changing season. I tend to incorporate some sort of shade of these staple home colors each season. You can never go wrong by purchasing plain colored pillows and adding them to your staple home decor collection. For our home, I’ve kept a set of velvet copper- orange pillows which make an appearance each season. I can then add more pattern or color filled pillows in the season’s color pallet to the staple pillows to create a cozy living space that still feels like me.
Global Decor Staple: Planters
Potted plants is definitely a signature look for any bohemian space. You may see a variety of pots for these plant babies, but my go-to pots are definitely terra cotta pots. I love the orange hue of the pots and it complements my space very well. Once you find your favorite plant pot texture or color, be sure to stock up on a few additional pieces in case one is broken by a very enthusiastic 5 year old ballerina or 6 year old practicing his Tae Kwon Do moves…. just as an example.... 🙂
