New Year New Room Challenge 2024

It’s that time of year again! The New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge is back! The NYNR Refresh Challenge is a January tradition where I challenge myself and a few friends to refresh a space or room in their home to kick off the New Year. I’ve loved seeing all the transformations done over the years and this year will be a great one as well.

Previous NYNR Challenges

Organizing a small basement home gym
artsy industrial global big boy bedroom thats colorful too!
modern bohemian summer decorating for dining room
Basement boho chic craft room office reveal
pink and purple bohemian girls bedroom
Small, wallpapered laundry room makeover

The general schedule is that we work on a space this month, and share our progress each Tuesday in January with a final reveal of our space the last Tuesday of the month. You too can join in on this challenge too!

Just pick a space/room to refresh this week, keep in mind that no heavy makeovers are required! You can decide to refresh a closet, pantry, bedroom, etc whichever space will bring you some happiness to start the year. Then, make a mood board and/or design plan for your space and share your progress each Tuesday this month using the hashtag #newyearnewroomchallenge. I’d love to follow your transformation! Here are my friends participating in the challenge this year. Be sure to check out their journey too!

This year, I’m planning to finish up the first floor and tackle the only space that hasn’t been refreshed……. the powder room! I have refreshed the living room and dining room multiple times, the sunroom twice, and the kitchen and laundry room once but never the powder room. Before I get into the plans, let me share what I ultimately envision for our home.

If you’ve been here for a while, you know that I’ve been on a quest to make our home feel like a vacation with tropical vibes and global influences. I feel that has been accomplished in several areas on the first floor, but the powder room is the last remaining space.

The powder room is slightly embarrassing! I did upgrade the pedestal sink a few years ago and also painted the walls except for a small area around the side of the sink that was unreachable. But that is the extent of what has been done to the powder room. It definitely needs a refresh!

I’m still working out the details of the plans, but I wanted to share some powder rooms and bathrooms that have inspired my thinking so far. You can find more bathrooms on my Pinterest board. Let me know which one is your favorite!
