Tropical Bohemian Christmas Tree
It’s another year of the My Home Style Blog Hop: Christmas tree edition! Check out 25 exciting Christmas trees shared this week along with my tropical bohemian Christmas tree.
I still get so excited for this time of the year. It’s no longer about the gifts, which were suuuper important as a kid. Rather, I get excited about all the holiday music, family time, seeing the faces of kiddos as they open presents, Christmas crafting, and definitely the Christmas decor. That’s why I’m absolutely giddy about the annual My Home Style Blog Hop: Christmas Tree Edition.
This is my 4th year hosting this event and we have amazing bloggers/designers lined up this week! Be sure to visit each one every day for continuous Christmas inspiration. Perhaps you’ll be inspired to try a new Christmas tree style this year!
Also kicking off today is my annual A Very Global Christmas series where Kathy of Up To Date Interiors and I share 12 days of globally inspired Christmas ideas. She just so happens to be sharing her Christmas tree today as well. So be sure to hop on over to her blog and check out her BEA-UTIFUL modern Christmas tree after my Tropical Bohemian Christmas Tree reveal. Kathy and I will be sharing another Christmas idea tomorrow too! Now, on to what is my favorite Christmas tree thus far!
See A Very Global Christmas 2017!
Tropical Bohemian Christmas Tree
The inspiration for this year’s global bohemian style Christmas tree came to me just last month. The hubs and I took a trip to my home country, the Dominican Republic, for a friend’s wedding. Perhaps it was the absence of fall leaves or the warm sunny weather, but I just felt such an overwhelming feeling of joy. I could have simply been reminiscing since I also had my wedding there.
Feeling the love surrounding our family and friends that week made me want to recreate it when we returned to the cold weather in Maryland. My Christmas decor this year is a blend of the tropical elements seen on the island and the Spanish/Afro-Caribbean styling prevalent in the Dominican Republic.
I took inspiration from the beautiful tropical flowers and botanicals on the island as well as the tasty, fresh fruit. If I could, the tree would have been completely decked out in orchids. Alas, they were on sale at Joann Fabrics and pretty much bought out! I think the tree turned out pretty good with the 7 orchids I was able to get. Remember those gilded dried grapefruit ornaments I shared last month? Well, viola here they are on my tree!
You can’t have a tropical tree without plants right?! Target has several of their faux botanicals on clearance right now, so I picked up a few palm fronds this week for about $2 a piece. I also added those diy plant propagation ornaments I shared last week.
Bohemian style is known for its natural elements. You’ll want to incorporate some sort of natural element whether its macrame, wood, burlap, or botanicals. The burlap I had saved from my colorful global Christmas tree 2 years ago did the trick for this year’s tree.
Unfinished wood beads added another layer of natural boho vibe. I used the beads to update my old chartreuse colored glass ornaments with a fresh natural boho vibe. The beads were also used to create diy tassel ornaments that include authentic African bone beads. The African influences extend to our mantel, but that reveal is for another day. Stay tuned for my Christmas mantel reveal, diy ornament tutorials, and the gift wrap ideas you see under my tree as part of this year’s A Very Global Christmas series.
I hope you enjoyed seeing our tropical bohemian Christmas tree today. I had so much fun putting it all together and hope it inspires you to take a chance this Christmas on creating your own tropical bohemian Christmas tree. Here is how you can recreate the look yourself!
The only downside to having a tree up this early is the constant reminders the kids need that it is NOT Christmas yet. LOL!!! I have had to tell my 5 year old daughter every morning last week that it’s not Christmas yet. Continue the Christmas tree hop by heading to Kathy of Up To Date Interiors. Then, return tomorrow for a brand new set of creative and inspiring Christmas tree styles!
