DIY Wall Art Hop Flip Flop: Birch Tree Art
Hola Amigos!
A few weeks ago, I made a DIY Doily Medallion for a DIY wall art blog hop. Well, a few of us bloggers decided to challenge each other again; but, this time we chose to recreate one of the blog hop art pieces of our choosing. Exciting right! Before I get into the Flip Flop wall art, I want to remind you to enter my Cutting Edge Stencil giveaway which ends tonight! Pick any stencil valued up to $50 and get it absolutely free. Now on to this popping wall art.
I loved all the wonderful art projects from the hop and link party, but I decided to recreate the amazing birch tree wall art by April at Uncookie Cutter since I love to paint.
I loved the art April did directly on the wall, but I opted to use a canvas instead. Be sure to check out her blog post for the tutorial to paint birch trees here.
I used the same prep and paint technique to start off my DIY birch tree art. Make sure to pull off the tape of the non-overlapping trees once the base color is almost, but not completely, dry. This will allow you to get crisp edges. You will remove the bottom taped trees after you complete the details on the top overlapping and single trees.
Unfortunately, the trees lacked texture and depth on a canvas. So, I used a moist paper towel to drag the paint using a circular and downward motion.
I then repeated the painting technique with the credit card to add highlights and shape to the tree.
The trees look so much better and have more dimension. This art project was so easy to do and very hard to mess up. As a matter of fact, it looks better when you make a mistake. I added too much paint in one section, so I used the moist paper towel to remove some of the paint. I ended with a darker area on one of the middle trees. That mistake provided so much depth and added character.
Here is the finished piece! I was lucky to have this black frame on hand. It belonged to a wall frame that I broke the glass to. I kept the frame just in case I would need it one day. Lo and behold, I did! I immediately told my non-hoarding husband, “See! This is the reason I keep a lot of things, you never know when you can use it.”
Admittedly, I was a bit worried using the chartreuse paint. Now, I couldn’t be happier with the colors. Be sure to pin this project to your DIY Wall Art Pinterest board. I have a great pin for you below. Then, head over to these wonderful blogs to check out which DIY wall art flip flop my friends chose!
Thanks so much for visiting my casa!
