Affordable Modern Boho Living Room Refresh

I have partnered with The Home Depot for this post. All my opinions about these instant room upgrades are 100% my own.

It’s another reveal day! I’ve been refreshing spaces throughout the house and started with Nugget’s artsy industrial bedroom then proceeded to Pink’s Scandi glam bedroom afterward. Today, I’m sharing the refresh I did to our modern boho eclectic living room!

I unfortunately got sick for what seemed like 3 weeks and so my living room reveal got pushed onto the back burner until we all got better here at Casa Watkins. I’m super excited to finally share the refresh we did for the living room. I’ve been working gradually on this room, starting with the awesome living room blue walls we painted and then the 3d wall panel we installed for the feature wall. These new, affordable modern living room upgrades are easy to do in your home and make an instant impact.

The living room has gradually been shifting towards a modern, eclectic mediterranean vibe which is what I love to see in main spaces of our home. Mixing modern features and colors with natural and organic elements really speaks to me. It definitely makes our home feel like OUR home. These modern upgrades, however, are super versatile that they can go with any style! Check it out!

Modern Brass Ceiling Fan

One of the first things I wanted to upgrade was the ceiling fan. Oh goodness gracious was our previous ceiling fan an atrocity. I just had to have this AMAZEballs brass and walnut ceiling fan from the Home Depot Home Decorators line. Not only does it bring in the walnut wood from the kitchen, but it warms the brushed gold to make an incredibly chic living room.

Just take a gander at that modern gold detail! Plus, the fan blades are reversible to an Elm finish! At about $180 for the fan, the 2 in 1 look is super affordable and a money saving upgrade. So, if you ever change your mind on the look of the living room, you can easily switch the ceiling fan to match. There are so many varieties of modern ceiling fans available at the Home Depot that are worth checking out ASAP.

Bookshelf for TV Stand

Our living room in on the smaller side, so making the most of the space is super important to me. We desperately needed a way to house the tv and media stuff, but also be stylish and not take up too much space. I came across these super chic, industrial bookshelves when I was designing Nugget’s room and a lightbulb went OFF!

By combining 3 of the bookcases, I created a chic industrial media center! I did have to modify the bookcases a bit for the job. Each shelf can withstand 50 pounds and the tv was just about that weight. I was able to place the tv onto the shelf by removing the center 2 shelves of each bookshelf.

I love the look this creates in the living room and it only utilizes 12 inches of space from the wall compared to the previous tv stands I’ve used. I’m debating whether to get two more bookshelves to place on either side. At about $100 a piece, the whole media center is quite the affordable upgrade.

Overall, I’m so happy with how the living room looks now. We are definitely much closer to the entire look I’d like for the living room. I do want to install some picture rails next to the sliding glass doors and upgrade the fireplace marble eventually, but for now I couldn’t be anymore happier with the results! What do you think of these easy upgrades!

  1. I am swooning hard for that gorgeous ceiling fan! I want one in every room of my home. And you are a frigging genius with the bookshelf hack! Such a smart way of opening up the room while still getting tons of functionality in there.
