DIY Dye Painted Charger Plates

Disclosure:  I have received complimentary products, which I used for this project.  All thoughts and opinions are mine alone.

Hola!

I showed a sneak peak of the DIY dye painted charger plates last week and today I have the full DIY painted charger plates tutorial for you!  I recently attended a blogger conference and I visited the Plaid booth and was amazed at a brand new product they were showcasing.  It’s called Ultra Dye created by Plaid’s Folkart line.  This dye is seriously amazeballs!  I couldn’t wait to try it when I got home.  It’s a liquid dye you paint on unfinished surfaces like my woven charger plates.  The dye is easy to paint on and doesn’t require multiple coats.  My DIY painted charger plates took about 10 minutes to make and only required one coat of the dye!

I used Ultra Dye in Tantalizing Turquoise, Emerald City, and created a shade of light green by mixing the Emerald City with Solar Power.  It’s so great that you can mix and match these dye colors.  The consistency of the dye is just a tad thinner than acrylic paint, but not too much.  The Ultra Dye gives the painted surfaces a stained look which is perfect for creating DIY globally inspired home decor.  I painted each charger plate by hand to give them all a handmade look and created a fun video of the entire process!  I’m pretty giddy about it.  I haven’t created a video before, so I hope you like it!

I mixed my new colorful, ethnic charger plates with plain white dishes and fresh maple tree twigs for a simple fall tablescape.  I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that it’s fall already!  This simple tablescape is definitely different than my fall tablescapes from last year.  You can see them here and another tablescape here.  Full disclosure, I didn’t know how to work my camera then.

Do you think you have some wicker baskets, mats, or charger plates you want to try this Ultra dye on?  I’m thinking I’ll use it on an old basket I have in my basement hoard room. 🙂  It’s seriously very addictive!  Stay tuned for more dyed projects friends.
