It’s finally hot and sunny outside after days of rain. This is the perfect weather to usher in a summer time home refresh and I’m excited to share how I have refreshed Casa Watkins for the summer. Today, I’m joining Jess of Domicile 37 as well as a group of talented eclectic style bloggers to share summer home refreshes. The Summer Eclectic Home Tour kicked off on Monday, so be sure to start the tour from the beginning with Blue I Style. If you are coming from Suburban Bitches, hola and welcome to Casa Watkins Living!
Casa Watkins Living is my online casa where I share inspiration for global, eclectic home decorating, DIY projects, global recipes, as well as lifestyle tips to help your home be the best it can be. Be sure to check out my main page for the latest posts in each category. My style of decorating consists of mixing globally inspired decor to make colorful spaces full of character and artistic pizzaz. I incorporate my Caribbean heritage in much of my styling and it’s pretty evident in the summer where my love of the hot tropics shines. Think British Colonial blended with Justina Blakeney’s Jungalow style and that’s Casa Watkins.
Thank you again for stopping by today. I hope you find inspiration from my tour and join my group of amigas by subscribing in the sidebar. Let’s kick off the tour of Casa Watkins!
As soon as you enter our home, you are greeted by my green stenciled wall and DIY Nautical mirror. I kept the console table styling pretty simple (well, simple for a maximalist like me). Fresh flowers from my garden are mixed with vintage thrifty finds and a Moroccan hammam bowl full of sea accents.
I love incorporating coastal elements in the summer. If done in small scale, it can be very stylish and a great addition for the summer. I’m not afraid of mixing metal finishes. I actually rather enjoy it! My DIY copper tray doesn’t look out of place when there are thrifted wooden candlesticks to help bridge the two metal finishes. Just need to grab my summer bag and comfy shoes, and I’m out to enjoy the sun.
To your right is the formal living room. I recently moved two of my previous dining room set which was reupholstered with a vibrant print. This room was one of my first makeovers for the One Room Challenge and it is very different from where we started. You can see that post here.
Directly in front of the living room is the my most recent One Room Challenge makeover, the dining room. It’s only been a few weeks since I’ve finished this room, but I did move a few things around for a fresh summer look. I brought in some vibrant yellow pillows and made a little cozy corner for additional seating.
The orange and vibrant fuschia colors of the handmade Indian artisan pillow is replicated in the fresh, fuschia roses picked from the garden and Ikea terracotta planters. Greet and serve your guests a refreshing cucumber water or other infused waters this summer. I used an inverted cake stand to coral the thrifted glasses together. I used one glass as a vase for fresh cut flowers.
Next is the kitchen which we will bypass. I never have the kitchen ready to photograph. My kids do so many activities during the day that my counters are covered with paintings, worksheets, and crayons galore. So, we will move into the family room. I’m always bringing in new vibrant pillows into this room……an action not well accepted by the hubs. He doesn’t see the purpose of pillows on the couch, haha. Luckily, he hasn’t gone into my hoard room to see the other pillows stashed there.

I love having standout pieces like this DIY lamplace (tutorial coming soon), which adds more character to this plain lampshade. Just last week, I created my own set of DIY mudcloth lamps which look at home in this colorful global-boho family room. A painted rock and magnifying turtle finish the table. The painted rocks continue on the coffee/cocktail table.
The painted Aztec inspired bowl looks like it belongs right there on the coffee table. A few more fresh clippings from the garden in a thrifted decanter and a bowl of fresh oranges and I’m ready for summer. My favorite quick hack for the summer was transforming my large woven target basket into a plant table! Just use a thrifted metal serving tray to fit your basket. Be sure the tray’s indented portion fits securely into your basket for a secure and supported lid.
I hope you enjoyed the tour of my summer casa! I’m always sharing quick styling inspiration and random tidbits on Instagram and Twitter. Stephanie! This was such a beautiful home tour. Your home is so cohesive, bright, and layered. Love it.
Just beautiful! I’m still crushing hard on your dining room. Tell me about that feather art on the dresser! Love it so.
i feel like your home is just meant for summer. it’s sooooo gorgeous!!!! all the plant life makes it feel so bright and lush, and of course your happy colors. beautifully done, steph!
So much green, your house is in bloom! All the colors, plants, and patterns make me so happy. Such a great space for summer!
Your home reminds me of my days living in South Florida – so bright and refreshing. And I love how you inject all those beautiful colors so well. Beautifully done, Stephanie!
Love the colors.
So lively and happy, without losing in style!
I am particularly fond of the green and yellow details you incorporated.
You have a very pretty eclectic style, Steph. 🙂

So bright and summery! You know I love all that color. Everything is so you!
I wish my home looked this pulled together and beautiful! You’ve outdone yourself, Steph! It all looks so inviting.
It looks amazing! SO bright and cheerful! That foyer is just the best. And I’m jealous that you have a blue/ white Chinese urn LAMP! I mean, I know I could make one out of one of my urns, but having one ready made would be the best! Looks GREAT! xx
I am in love with your home and style! I love the bold colors. will hop around to see everyone else.

Wow! Your photography is amazing! Love the additional pops of yellow in the dining room and your foyer is so bright and beautiful. Your guests must be thrilled when they come in. Your idea to use a basket as a plant stand is genius.
Love your summer home, Stephanie! The green stenciled wall in your entry is awesome. Your home always brings a smile to my face because it is so colorful and cheerful. 🙂
