Colorful Global, Eclectic Dining Room Reveal

Hola!

The day has come my friends!!!  I am so eager and pleased to share my dining room after this 6 week long transformation.  As a reminder, Linda of Calling It Home has a biannual room makeover challenge open to all decor enthusiasts.  The 20 official participants have already shared their room reveals, so be sure to check out those awesome rooms and the over 200 guest participants sharing today!

This is my second time participating in this challenge, the first was my living room makeover which was more than I could handle.  I decided to take on the dining room and boy am I SUPER excited with the results.  You can catch up on all the posts leading up to this reveal:

Week 1 // Week 2 // Week 3 // Week 4 // Week 5

Here is what the room looked like originally and the second photo is after the room was painted following the house fire.  You can see more of the dining room as part of my Winter Home Tour.

A great improvement right?  But, not as great as the new Global, Eclectic dining room!!!

Love all the colors in this Global, Tropical style dining room

Does the room make you feel like you’re on vacation in the Caribbean?  One of the best vacations I’ve taken has been my 2 week long honeymoon in my native country the Dominican Republic.  My husband and I were married and enjoyed a long honeymoon in the same resort.  I wanted to recreate the tropical feel for the dining room, but incorporate a greater global aesthetic.

I used Moroccan trays and hammam bowls, tribal rugs, chinoiserie china, tropical decor, and the ever popular American farmhouse table to create our very own global dining room tropical retreat.  One of the first pieces in the room was the Mountain dining table from Urban Home.  This gorgeous table gives the room a casual, rustic feel that is also quite tropical paired with the rest of the decor.

After weeks and weeks of indecision, I finally settled on two insanely beautiful rugs from RugsUSA.  The gray Chembra Diamond Rain rug from RugsUSA looks right at home on top of the Handspun Jute rug also from RugsUSA.  I hadn’t layered rugs in our home before, but this room really called for a layered rug to balance the array of colors in the dining room.

Plain pillows are great to rest the eye in colorful spaces

Much of the Caribbean/Tropical decor is influenced by British or Spanish colonial style.  Instead of using strictly Spanish colonial style chairs, I opted for these off white bistro chairs from LampsPlus.  They are the perfect complement to the farmhouse style table and the rattan seat gives it the tropical vibe desired for the room.

Skip the pillows, use plants to decorate a chair or space

I kept the buffet table and it was truly the best decision!  Plus, there wasn’t anywhere else to put it…..  The cocktail area was highlighted by using a Moroccan tray from El Ramla Hamra to display a brilliant glass decanter set.

I gave a few sneak peaks of this incredible art piece by Cozamia.  The Parrot in the Jungle print was very inspiring for many of the colors within the room.  I drew the pink colors for the floral arrangements and the vibrant greens inspired all the plant/leaf decor in the room.

I arranged pink and yellow blooms in a hammam bowl from El Ramla Hamra and couldn’t resist using the other bowls for the table decor.  I am quite impressed with my arrangement, I must say.

I finally received the nod of approval from the hubs!  The entire time of the makeover he was not seeing the bigger picture and had one complain after another.  Now, he can see what  I had envisioned for the room and he likes it!  Yay me!
