Serene bohemian guest bedroom

Casa Watkins has been having an increased amount of guests staying over lately and that meant that my previous basement office needed a full serene bohemian guest room makeover STAT. I’ve partnered with The Home Depot for this makeover and am excited to showcase the amazing home decor finds you can get from The Home Depot. What was previously a haven for home renovators and builders has truly expanded into the go-to place for all things home. Let’s dive into the process of this basement bedroom transformation.
The entire basement has truly undergone so many transformations in the last year. I recently refreshed the basement wet bar with a bold new cabinet color and tile. The basement has two rooms along with a full bathroom.
One of the rooms served as a colorful basement office for a bit, but had gradually transitioned into a guest room once we started having more guests and my mother in law staying for weeks at a time. After moving my modern bohemian office upstairs to the second floor it was time to give the basement room a makeover.
How to make a basement room feel airy
I started by removing the wallpaper with my Wagner steamer and painting the ceiling in conch shell by Behr. This immediately brightened the room and made it so much more airy. The geometric wall mural was painted over with Behr’s Painters white paint to match the rest of the room. To break up the neutral palette, I created a beautiful bohemian wall decor install with rattan lanterns. These lanterns were too gorgeous to pass up and look incredible with plants. You can see the video about the bohemian rattan lanterns on my Instagram.
There are touches of the botanical theme throughout the room including the abstract botanical rug and of course the plants. The touches of green in the rug play so nicely with the natural hues around the room.
The carved walnut cabinets feature a stunning carved botanical pattern and are so spacious! They can hold any guest belongings and store extra linens for the room. Both cabinets flank the wall and each are decorated simply with a beautiful textured clear lamp and plant. The clear glass lamps add the lighting and style without taking away from the airiness of the room.
To make the room feel more inviting (and less like a basement!), I decided to soften the room with a wall of curtains. Curtains can always add a sense of warmth and these beige curtain sheers hung on an extra long brass rod create a bright, warm space without blocking the light from the window.
serene bohemian bedroom vibes
Guests will be able to enjoy a SUPER comfy sleep on this new queen size bed and mattress. Bye bye dated full size bed! The white modern headboard looks amazing against the wall of curtains. The contrast of the beige curtains and white headboard makes this space feel so grounded without feeling enclosed like some basement rooms can feel like.
The cozy new bed includes a new memory foam pillow top mattress and dressed with organic white linens, a fluffy hotel like white comforter, and a beige buff coverlet with matching pillow shams. When guests need extra height to the bed, a new super easy to assemble box spring can be added to the bed. A couple of woven hyacinth baskets at the foot of the bed completes the new, serene guest bedroom.
I’m so excited to have guests back in the house and feel welcomed in this serene bohemian bedroom! It wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing home decor finds from The Home Depot.
