Modern Bohemian Dining Room Plans: New Year New Room Refresh Challenge

It’s the New Year and I’m sharing my Modern Bohemian dining room makeover plans for the annual New Year New Room Refresh Challenge!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Instead of coming up with New Year’s resolutions, I like to think of a theme to guide my year.  This year’s theme is renewal.  I’m looking to renew several aspects of my life, home, and Casa Watkins Living this year.  I’m not sure how this renewal will impact some of these aspects just yet.  Though, I can say that you will start seeing some sweet improvements as far as our home is concerned.

First up, our dining room!

I’m so excited to kick off 2019 with the annual New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge!  Be sure to visit all the wonderful participants of this year’s NYNR refresh challenge as they share their journey into refreshing a space of their own.  You can join in the fun too by sharing your weekly progress with us each Tuesday in January.  Simply drop your link at the end of this post to play along.  Stay tuned for all the room reveals on the final Tuesday of this month.

Modern Bohemian Global Fusion Dining Room Plans

Since the kitchen is expanding into the old dining room area, I’ve had to change the floor plan of our first floor.  The dining room is shifting into the old formal living room which is not much of a large space.  It does have wonderful lighting coming in from the two windows.  It’s actually one of my favorite spaces in the house.

The renewed Casa Watkins will feature modern bohemian, global fusion style with hints of glam.  I’ve said it before, I’m more of a casual girl but my hubs is all luxe and grandeur so I’m trying to infuse more of his style into our home.  I think I did pretty good with the design so far.  What do you think?

We have some wonderful sponsors this year including the fabulous Milton & King.  I fell in love with this black and white patterned wallpaper called Gadara.  Just look at those wonderful patterns!  I’ve been falling more and more in love with wallpaper and Milton & King definitely have a great selection of statement, attention grabbing wallpaper.  I paired the wallpaper with popping red-orange curtains to bring in some color.

Yes….you read that right.  RED!

I’m embracing a bit of red, but I couldn’t go all the way.  So, I settled for red-orange.

To bring in more colors, I’m creating some art pieces and styling them in beautiful satin black picture frames from Art to Frame.  I’m typically a fan of satin frames, but it was hard choosing from all the great selections from Art to Frames.  Plus, there were so many sizes available too!  I may use their custom framing options if I do get to create the art next week.

Another way I’m bringing in color (and those bohemian vibes!) is by using cowrie tassels from Boho Luxe Home as a diy curtain ties along with painting my dining chairs with Velvet Finishes paints.  I’m hoping that the sleek black look of the chairs goes great with the Bisnager fabric I’ll be using to recover some cushions.  Just look at that pop of color oozing from that multicolored fabric.  It’s a technicolor dream.  I’m using the same farmhouse style table and am on the fence on whether to paint the bottom legs of the table.  I think I’ll wait to see how the room looks and decide later.

Finally, the final touch to the room is this beautiful glam aged brass chandelier from Hudson Valley Lighting Group.  I love how this light fixture creates a sense of understated elegance in the room.  I’m considering bringing in a couple captain’s chairs to complement the style of this fabulous chandy, but it all depends on the expenses from the kitchen renovation.

Now that you’ve seen my plans, head on over to my fellow NYNR participants websites to see which spaces they’re transforming.
