Pottery Barn Lilian Vase Inspired Bud Vases

Hola!

The New Year is always a time for refreshing and renewing.  It’s only February and there are so many fun renewing posts happening here at Casa Watkins.  I was so excited when Jess of Domicile 37 asked if I’d participate in a fun new challenge where we give a refresh/makeover to old items.  The #ItsSoUglyItsCool challenge was right up my alley.  I love upcycling and repurposing items, especially thrift store items.
I just so happen to have a small thrift store bud vase that was perfect for this challenge.  I purchased two of these vases for a $1 each in hopes of giving them a new look.  Honestly, I purchase a lot of thrift store items in hopes of completing a makeover on them and they tend to sit in my basement for a while.  My husband is two seconds away from calling 1800 Got Junk!

No, seriously.  He said he was going to call them.

So, I’m working my way through my hoarding stash “thrifted treasure” pile giving them quick makeovers to incorporate them into my decor.

First up, the small ceramic bud vase!

So, I was perusing Pottery Barn’s website the other day and they have a new tab for their globally inspired decor!  So excited to see brands reaching out and appreciating global home decor.  Plus, it makes it easy for me to find inspiration for projects.

I saw the beautiful Lilian Vase by Pottery Barn and knew I wanted to recreate a similar look.

I used some Americana acrylic paint which I mixed with DecorArt White chalk paint to thicken the paint.  Plus, I find that chalk paint always dries much faster so I prefer to mix it into any used acrylic paint.  The vase was covered with two coats of the American Vanilla Shake and DecorArt white chalk paint mix.

Once it was dry (about 15 minutes), I used a fine point blue Sharpie paint marker to paint on the design.  I looked at the Pottery Barn Lilian vase for inspiration to create the design.

A flower here, a squiggle there, just have fun with it!

You don’t have to continue the design the entire way down since you’ll be adding the Americana Battleship paint to the bottom.  Once you have a design you like,  add some of the Americana Battleship acrylic paint that has been mixed with the white chalk paint.   Since my vase has a curved rim, I opted to have a curved, less symmetrical border of the battleship paint.  The inspiration vase has a straight border which mimics the straight rim at the top of the vase.

Let the entire vase dry and add a top clear glaze if you’d like, otherwise you are all set!  Add some greenery and place your global bud vase inspired by Pottery Barn on display.

Some of my blogging friends are also sharing some #ItsSoUglyItsCool projects today!  Be sure to check those posts below.  So do you think you can create your very own Pottery Barn inspired vase? Or, do you have items that are not as pretty as they should be?  Snap a picture and share a before and after split screen photo on Instagram and you could be featured on our accounts.  Thanks so much for stopping by my casa.
