Modern Boho Powder Room in Teal and White
It’s finally here! The New Year New Room Refresh Challenge reveal day! This year, I tackled our powder room and turned it into a modern boho powder room in teal and white. This small bathroom was the only space on the first floor that hasn’t been refreshed or had a makeover beyond a coat of paint. I was super excited to finally give this space some dedicated attention.
I’ve had several ideas to makeover the powder room over the years, but haven’t completed a single one. The New Year New Room Refresh challenge came at the right time to give this powder room some much needed attention with the extra motivation from challenge participating friends. Be sure to check out my friends’ amazing room transformations by clicking all the links below after you see my reveal.

Modern Boho Powder Room
Here is how the bathroom looked before…..
And here is the newly refreshed modern boho powder room!
Can you believe I completed this entire space in one weekend! Yes, ONE WEEKEND! I recently started a new job this January and have had extremely limited time to tackle the space. So, I only had these past weekend to start and finish the powder room. Now, I will also add that over the years I have also had issues with procrastination but that is the beauty of the New Year New Room Refresh challenge. You can take your time as you complete the space and flourish in a new room by the end of the month.
How I Completed a Bathroom Makeover in a Weekend!
Though I completed the work over the weekend, I had planned out the refresh over the course of several weeks. I shared my plans the second week of the NYNR challenge and you can see that I pretty much followed that plan. I ordered all the items I needed ahead of time so that I could transform the space and have all that was needed on hand. Here are the items I used to create this modern boho powder room.
Wall Treatments
The color transformation has been incredible in making this small powder room feel much larger. I created the textured ceiling by first painting the ceiling with Behr Espresso Beans paint and then applying a bamboo reed fencing material for instant tropical vibes. More to come on that this week!
Then, I created my VERY FIRST faux board and batten wall! I hadn’t tackled this type of wall treatment before, but I felt more comfortable taking on the task after creating the plank walls in my dining room and gym. I painted the top of the wall with Behr Teal Motif and the bottom board and batten wall in Behr Beach house.
Decorating the Powder Room with Tropical Boho Flair
To decorate the powder room, I started with a beautiful yellow and teal rug I found at BedBathandBeyond.com. This rug contains almost every color I’ve used in our home, so it was the perfect compliment to this new powder room. It comes in more sizes too! I also found a cute and stylish stripe soap dispenser in the same color palette as the rug as well as a woven waste basket that mimic the ceiling texture.
I’m a fan of mixing metals, so I knew I wanted a modern gold mirror with a gold accented light. I shared more modern gold powder room mirrors last week, but I fell in love with the shape of this arch mirror I also purchased from Bed Bath & Beyond. The glass vanity light has the most elegant touches of gold so it’s not over powering the mirror. Take a look at the small detail around the glass shade!
Finally, I added some wall decor! I finally have a home for the large bead art piece I scored from HomeGoods last year. I adore it in the powder room and it doesn’t compete with anything else for attention. I also added a framed art piece I made. How cute does this look in this small gold frame? The color of the tropical houses is similar to the colors found in the rug and soap dispenser too.
In true style, I have sat in this newly refreshed space for hours just overwhelmed with the joy of having this space done. That is truly my most favorite aspect of this challenge, having the joy of a new space to start the year. How did your space transformation go?
