How To Wallpaper a Ceiling By Yourself
This post was sponsored by Milton & King. I received product to complete this project and couldn’t be happier with the results!
Do you shy away from projects that traditionally involve more than 1 person? I sure did! Tackling home repairs as a DIY is already a challenge in itself, but taking on projects by yourself!!! Boy, that is beyond challenging! Wallpapering a ceiling by yourself is one of those projects many would shy away from, but friends…. it’s easier than you may think!
Wallpapering was one of those home projects that was intimidating at first. I shared about wallpapering my dining room by myself last year and it was so much easier than I had anticipated. So clearly I thought “hey, I can wallpaper a ceiling by myself too!”
Let me preface by saying that this job can be done with two hands, but it is much easier to do with 4 or more. Here are the simple tricks I learned to wallpaper a ceiling by yourself.
How to wallpaper a ceiling by yourself
1Start by prepping your panels for installation. Make sure you have each panel cut to the size needed and your wallpaper paste ready to go. I opted for the bold patterns from Hockney wallpaper from Milton & King. I love how much color this paper adds to my office and it’s all coming from the ceiling!
2Painter’s tape is a MUST HAVE for this project friends! You’ll be wallpapering the ceilings with large panels and that weight can cause the panel to fall in the middle of placing it up. Using tape to hold the paper upright was my way of reducing the pull of the wallpaper. Start each panel installation by taping the sides of the paper down (or up in this case!) the wall.
3Apply your paste to the first edge of the wall and about 18-24” of your ceiling. Refer to my wallpapering for first timers post if you’ve never wallpapered before. You’ll continue applying the paste and wallpaper in 24″ increments and remove the painter’s tape securing the wallpaper as you go.
4Be sure that the paste is cleaned from the wallpaper before placing the next panel. Believe me, your arms will thank you. Waiting until the end to sponge clean excess glue from your entire ceiling will make anyone cry in pain.
Wallpapering a ceiling can be intimidating and sound like a job for at least 2 people, but it can be done with one person following my tips. Take the plunge and wallpaper a ceiling in your home soon! My office is bright and colorful with the addition of stunning wallpaper from Milton & King.
