How to choose paint colors for a home gym for the best workout!

We are nearing the end of the New Year New Room Refresh Challenge and this week was all about adding paint to the gym. Selecting a paint color for any room can be a little anxious, lord knows I’ve gone through my share of paint fails, but having an idea of the energy level or vibe you’d like for the space will make choosing a paint color for a home gym much easier! Here are the helpful paint tips to keep in mind as you plan your home gym.

Best paint colors for a home gym

Energetic Gym Colors

If you’re a heavy hitter, full throttle, gym enthusiast then you’ll want to choose a paint color from the red, orange, or yellow family. Reds create a high energy, exciting environment making it a great color for those who love cardio, weight lifting, and want the environmental motivation to finish those reps. Because the vibrancy of reds can be overwhelming, use red as an accent rather than a whole room color. Try using reds for a ceiling, chair rail, or for an accent wall in the gym.

Perhaps the energy of red is too frantic for you? Oranges and yellows can give you the energy of a red, but with a bit of calmness and warmth. Softer oranges can be used throughout the entire room, while bolder oranges can be used for accent walls. Mix shades of oranges on the walls and trims to create a warm, yet energetic gym. Yellows can create an energetic gym which could be the right color to keep you moving during your workout. Be cautious of using bright yellows if you’re looking for a calming effect. The brighter and bolder the yellow, the higher the energy it will create.

Calming gym colors

Blues have always been a go to color of mine. Blue paint colors create a sense of calmness like no other! When it comes to creating a calm but focused gym, shades of blue are your friend. Blue helps with concentration when we need to focus on our exercise or techniques and can be used in spaces where relaxation is valued along with productivity. Use blue paint colors for gyms and studios emphasizing yoga and pilates.

Soothing gym colors

Looking to have a calm and soothing workout zone? Add some green to your gym walls for an instant nature connection. Green paint colors create a zen like gym zone perfect for a yoga spa vibe.

Cooling whites

Should your gym be a hot zone…. and I mean the room itself, it may be good to use a cooling white in your gym. White paints can give the sense of a cool down, a peaceful environment, and reduce the temperature feel of a room. Where red paints increase the temperature and energy of a room, white paints do the opposite.

Painting a home gym can be easy as long as you have decided what your overall goal of the space will be, the energy you want to create in the gym, and what your primary gym needs are. Color psychology can be used to enhance your workout experience. Don’t shy away from repainting a gym should the energy or vibe of the gym need a tweaking.
