I’m excited about today’s post. My dining room wall has been lacking a particular…..je ne sais quoi. I hadn’t been actively searching for the missing element, rather I thought that I’d find something one day that would just be a natural fit. Today’s post is exactly that! The flower vase tassel wall hanging is exactly what my wall needed. I have to admit that once I finished this project, I wanted to create another one for the family room.
The flower vase tassel wall hanging is easy to make and you can incorporate global touches to your design. It’s a great way to feature spring florals for Easter as well. Create a few extra ones and give them as gifts to your friends or family. Here’s how to create your own tassel wall hanging.
Tassel Wall Hanging
You’ll need a few items to create this global look. I used recycled glass bottles for mine, but you can use any preferred vase or glass. You will also need yarn, a gold metal ring, and a camel swag tassel. I scored mine from my favorite online tassel shop, Woman Shops World on Etsy. There are two separate items that you must create, then bring together onto the gold ring.
How To Make A Tassel
The first item you’ll need to create is a large yarn tassel.
- Wrap the yarn 18 times around your thumb and elbow to create a long and full tassel.
- Tie the yarn in the middle using one end of the yarn. Then, use the other end to cinch the top of the tassel. You will need to wrap the yard around the tassel head a few times. Tie both ends together to secure your tassel.
- Use the remaining lengths of your tassel ends to secure the tassel to your gold ring.
How To Make A Global Style Yarn Wrapped Vase
The second item you’ll need to assemble is the yarn wrapped vase. There is no need to go out and purchase a vase y’all. I used a recycled glass from the iced Starbucks drinks at the grocery store.
- Add a dot of glue to the bottom edge of the glass and wrap 3/4 of the bottle. Continue to add dabs of glue as you are wrapping to secure the yarn.
- Next, you’ll need to wrap the neck of the bottle. Place the bottle neck in the middle of a yard length of yarn. Tie a knot around the bottle neck and begin wrapping either ends of the yarn around the bottle neck. Wrap the yarn ends twice, then add the camel swag tassel to the wrapping. Continue wrapping the neck of the bottle until it is fully covered.
- Tie a knot at the base of the yarn closest to the bottle vase. Repeat to the opposite side then knot both ends (furthest from the bottle) together. I would also suggest you knot a second knot around the first. This will be the end you hang from your wall nail, so you want it to be as secure as possible.
- Once your glue is dry, loop the vase around the metal gold ring using the excess hanging yarn. You should have a long segment available to work with.
Hang your new floral wall hanging using fresh spring flowers. You can easily change out your florals by the season or place a plant to grow. Now, head on over to view Kathy’s beautiful Sakura wreath!
