Design Plans for my Neutral boho Small Home Gym
It’s week 2 of the New Year New Room Refresh Challenge and yet it still feels like week 1. I finally finished designing the small home gym that will be in my basement! I normally have the design finished by week 1, but this gym was a bit hard to conceptualize with all the mess that was in the room.
After cleaning out the entire space, minus the set up for the home wifi, I now see where I can take this small home gym..design wise. The room is bigger than I remember too! Check out the video of the room clean out on my instagram here.
Participate in the challenge and my ebook
Before we get into this week’s progress, I wanted to share some encouragement for those wanting to take on the challenge themselves. You too can participate and create a space in your home. Kick off this new year with a brand new room refreshed in the style you’ve always wanted but didn’t have the motivation to start (or sometimes had the motivation but nervous about starting!).
I wrote a book all about taking the home decorating leap years ago and had planned to release the newest edition a few years ago right before the pandemic hit. As you can guess that took a backseat to literally everything. So now, here we are in 2023 finally releasing the book! Stay tuned for more details at the end of this challenge cycle, but you don’t have to wait to participate until then. Take the leap and start sharing your journey with us using the hashtag #newyearnewroomchallenge on social media.
home gym design plans
What is the first thing you choose for a room? Mine is typically the art or wallpaper, but it’s generally the item I can draw colors from for accessories. Since this room is all about zen and relaxations, I chose a more neutral palette but still wanted some pizazz. Check out the plans for the home gym below!
The wallpaper should be here this week and I’m looking forward to wrapping practically every inch of this room with it. The boho tribal natural wood wallpaper has a wood grain look but is covered in geometric shapes perfect for the modern, yet stylish home gym. By the way, you can get 20% off all home decor and wallpaper from Spoonflower using my code, CASAWATKINS20.
Instead of shopping for all new items, I decided to shop the house and alllll those items I had removed from the mess of the room. A great room refresh doesn’t have to involve buying all new items and after all the holiday spending I’m trying to avoid large expenses. I do wish they would have let all the lumber providers know! One of the biggest expenses is the wood I purchased for the wood slat wall. More to come on that!
Some of the things I’m planning to move in are the white Ikea shelves I purchased for my old craft room. The hubs will be so happy to finally be able to park in the garage once these shelves find a new home in the gym. I’ll probably grab a few baskets to organize some items too. There were so many baskets found when cleaning out the room.
The mirrors and new light fixture won’t be too much of an expense, so that leaves more room for some last minute decor items I’ll shop closer to reveal day. Here is a look at the room I have so far! I’m still deciding if I’ll add color with the slats or keep them natural. I’ll be experimenting with those this week!
