Hola,
It’s that time again, CREATE and SHARE Challenge day! This month, we had a very unique sponsor, GraphicStock, who generously gave us a subscription to their vast network of images in order to create a new home item. Be sure to check out each project at the end of this post. You’re not going to believe the projects shared!
I searched the vast images offered on GraphicStock and stopped immediately when I saw this ornamental round lace pattern which you can see on GraphicStock here.
I debated on what to make with this colorful moroccan-esc design and finally decided upon moroccan plates.
What is so wonderful about making your own plates is that you can design any dish to fit your table decor or theme. If this bright colored image isn’t for you, no problem, you can select any image to fit your tablescape or decor. Great news, each reader can have a FREE 7 day subscription! Here is how you can make your own dessert plates at home.
You’ll have to have clear, glass plates of your desired size. I went with dessert plates, but Amazon has great deals for sets in any size. Most come in sets of 6-12 so you can make however many you’ll like or switch up designs for multiple looks. A glossy decoupage and gold leaf rub and buff are also needed. I also used a bristled brush to add texture. Should you want a smooth finish, then a decoupage brush is recommended.
Download your desired image using your GraphicStock subscription. Cut away any non printed paper. I also cut away the smaller detail on the border since it would not fit on my dessert plate.
Add some decoupage to the back side of the glass plate first, making sure to cover the entire back side of the plate. Then, cover the front side of the image with decoupage. Be sure to work fast as the decoupage will dry relatively quickly.
Press the front of the image you just covered with decoupage onto the back side of the plate. I recommend centering the image on the center of the plate first and pressing from the center outward. This will reduce bubbles and wrinkles.
Add 2 more coats of decoupage to the back side of the plate, allowing the plate to dry between coats. The plate will have brush strokes around the edges of the plate that are not covered by the image. I really loved this special detail and wanted to highlight them.
Use a small amount of gold leaf rub and buff around the edges making sure to use as small of an amount as possible. Let fully the plate fully dry.
Now you have a usable, stylish dessert plate full of global style goodness. I was so thrilled with the outcome that I put together a small table presentation for the family. Unfortunately, they ate most of the muffins before the photoshoot. I still think it looks delicious on my new dessert plates. Check out my easy pancake mix chocolate chip muffins recipe here.
Thanks so much for stopping by my casa!

Does the decoupage hold-up with hand-washing?
It does! The decoupage worked great to protect the paper, but I have recently seen that ModPodge makes a version for dishwashing! I haven’t tried it yet, but I hear great things about it.
