DIY Woven Basket Wall Hanging

Start your spring decorating with this easy to make DIY woven basket wall hanging!

It’s the first Monday of the month and you know that means another The Global Styler post!  This month we’re kicking off spring with some quick spring diy home decor ideas.  I’m just adoring all the ideas this month.  I’m so done with winter and can’t wait to see all the colorful tulips pop up in my garden.  Our outdoor areas need a lot of work.  In the meantime, I’m creating all the spring vibes I can indoors!  Today, I’m happy to share a quick diy woven basket wall hanging inspired by all the boho scandi wall hangings seen on Instagram.

One of the biggest trends last year was macrame wall hangings.  There are so many elaborate designs featuring all sorts of details.  The wall hangings typically hang from a wooden or copper rod, but you can create your own spin on the trend using a woven basket.  I purchased this woven basket at a very reasonable price from Target.  It’s part of the Hearth and Home line created by Chip and Joanna Gaines.  You may see that several of my recent projects have involved updating this traditionally farmhouse home decor Target line.  I hope this inspires you to look at decor pieces in non global or bohemian styles in another light.  You can transform so many items to create your own globally inspired look.  So, be sure to stop by all The Global Stylers ideas shared today at the end of this post!

For this project, you will need a woven basket and yarn in your preferred color.  I used white yarn to create a fresh spring look, but you can easily mix in more colors depending on your room color palette.  Simply cut your yarn to your desired length and loop around the weavings.  I doubled the yarn over twice then looped it on the basket to make the yarn look fuller.  Don’t worry too much about the symmetry of the ends since you’ll be trimming the ends later on.

Continue weaving the yarn around each corner of the selected basket area.  I used about 40 gatherings of yarn to create the longer section and 15 for the shorter area.  You may want to add more yarn in around the weave corners to create a fuller look.  I trimmed the yarn edges in a step pattern, but you can easily cut in a diagonal or triangle pattern if you prefer a non symmetrical look.  Hang up your basket wall hanging above your fireplace or entryway for a fresh spring look!
