Wallpapered Girl’s Closet Makeover

It’s week 2 of the New Year New Room Refresh Challenge and today I’m sharing the transformation of Chi-Chi’s wallpapered girl’s closet makeover as its so important for the ambience of the rest of the room. Did you catch all the posts from week 1 yet? There are so many spaces being transformed and I can’t wait to see how all of my friends have refreshed their spaces.

Chi-Chi’s closet was a great starting point for her room makeover since I’ve needed to edit her closet of all the baby and toddler clothes. Yes, she still had a bunch of things in this small closet! There is nothing better than a well organized space to start the New Year. Here is how the closet looked before the wallpapered boho closet makeover.

Wallpapered Boho Closet Makeover

For this closet makeover, I started by removing all the wire shelving and wallpapering the closet. I used prepasted smooth removable wallpaper from Spoonflower and it was an easy installation. This was my first time using prepasted, booking necessary wallpaper and it was much easier that I had expected…..and less messy too! The prep for the wallpaper is the only thing different really. I adore this vibrant pink and orange ikat boho pattern by Viv Designs. It’s such a bold wallpaper and definitely not what Chi-Chi was expecting since she is a hardcore pink and purple girl. DIY Closet Shelves

After the wallpaper was installed, I installed a new gorgeous crystal pendant lamp which is definitely a showstopper. I added new shelf brackets with the attached rod holders and 2 white shelves on one of the walls. Having one of the shelves at the previous shelving height was great for storing any seasonal clothing while the other was lower to allow Chi-Chi easier access. It was easier to use two expandable closet rods than to cut down a larger rod. So, I used one 48″-72″ expandable closet rod and a smaller 30-48″ expandable closet rod with a pole end cap on the open end.

The actual shelves were super easy to create and very affordable! I used one 36″ laminate shelf and cut a 72″ white laminate shelf to the size of the closet, which was roughly 66″. I laid the shelves in place on top of the brackets then marked the screw holes with a pencil for the pilot holes. After I drilled pilot holes, I replaced the shelves and used the screws to secure each shelf to the brackets. Overall the closet shelving cost me less than $90.00 all together.

The mirror was hung on the wall using command strips. I’m thinking of DIYing a mirror upgrade to make the mirror look more full. Pink gave her sister Chi-Chi the mirror before she moved out so there is a bit of sentimental value in it. Perhaps I’ll tackle that for next week while I wait for the wallpaper to arrive.

Chi-Chi was super surprised and so very happy to see her new closet. I can’t wait to see her new bedroom all done and styled.
