Using Potted Flowers in Summer Kitchen Vignette

I love using fresh flowers in my home every chance I get and often have them as key components of my kitchen table vignettes.  I recently mentioned to the hubs that it would be the sweetest thing to bring me flowers every week.  He has been pretty good at picking out beautiful bouquets, but one day he brought home a potted begonia!  What am I going to do with a potted begonia?!  I suppose it’s the thought that counts, but seeing as I do not plant flowers this potted begonia was going to stay indoors.  Here is how I used my potted flower as the focal point of a summer kitchen table tray vignette.

Use Potted Flowers As Vignette Focal Point

The family room and kitchen is the center of our home as it is in many homes.  Our kitchen table is right at the center of the room and is visible from the family room where we spend most of our time.  So, I try to keep the kitchen table free of paper clutter and always have table vignettes to create a sense of warmth in the space.  One of the key tips when creating a table vignette is to have a focal point to draw your eye.  I decided to use my potted begonia as that focal point.

The flower needed a pop of character, so I used a gold toned planter pot.  I scored this planter at the thrift store for a whopping dollar!  Shopping tip:  check out the planters when you are thrift shopping.  As long as it’s in good condition, you could always spray paint it any color you desire.

Decorate your vignette with seasonal colors that coordinate with your potted flower.  White, blue, and yellow coordinate great with the vibrant red begonia.  It’s a bit patriotic and can last through July for Independence day celebrations.

Use A Large Tray To Build Vignette

Start building your vignette with a tray to house your kitchen items.  A white tray with stacked chinoiserie blue willow plates do the trick for me.  Lemons in a wooden bowl atop of the stacked plates add height and color to the vignette.

Use Kitchen Items to Fill Tray Vignette

Add more color by using petite bouquets in small pitchers.  My sister was recently downsizing her kitchen items and I was given two of these cute ceramic milk pitchers.  I’m probably the best person to help you downsize.  You get rid of your things, but they come straight into my house.  Needlesstosay, the hubs was a bit scared when I mentioned I’d help my sister rid of things.  He knew they’d end up in our house!  I also snagged the runner, haha.

I finished the vignette by adding in some blue chinoiserie.  I try to limit my blue usage, but it just keeps pulling me in.  White and blue porcelain works with any color!  Don’t believe me, check out my post Ginger Jars: The Blue Jeans of Home Decor.

Maybe the potted begonia was not a bad idea after all?  They do last longer than cut floral bouquet and frankly looks great within your kitchen table vignette.  Do you see yourself using potted flowers for a kitchen vignette?
