Toddler Snack Time Clock: Regulate Snacking With this Clock
Hola!
Yesterday, I posted about my involvement with Chobani’s #Chobanikidsproject and shared how I use a snack time clock on my pantry door to help regulate Nugget and Chi-Chi’s snack time. Today, I am sharing how I made this very easy snack time clock using a clock, a coloring book, homemade mod-podge, and stickers.
My kids love coloring and have stocked up several colored-in coloring and activity books. I have kept them for who knows what reason and came across them while cleaning the kitchen. It turned out that it was the perfect material to cover the clock. I started my snack clock by unscrewing the inner clock ring (your clock may not have one, but it will look cleaner if you remove the ring before you start).
I cut the coloring book pages into small pieces and also cut some of the page figures out for accent pieces. Apply the mod-podge to the clock and place your coloring book page segment. Make sure you apply another coat of the mod-podge on top so that the page is sealed in place. Work in small areas around the clock until you have covered the entire clock. I applied another coat of the mod-podge when I finished covering the clock.
As you are letting your clock dry. Place your stickers on the snack times you want. We have a snack at 12pm and again at 4pm. I found some cute fruit stickers at Micheals and decided to use the apples to mark our snack times. You’ll have to place another sticker on the longer hand of the clock. Make sure you have properly placed your stickers so that the kid’s can tell when the two stickers will align for snack time.
I kept the glass off the clock just in case the clock hit the dining room wall overhang next to the pantry door. Once the clock was dry, I placed a picture hanging strip on the back of the clock and on the pantry door. It has held up pretty good too. I liked the clock as is, but I liked it even more after I placed the extra stickers around the rim of the clock. Hang your clock up in the best location that meets the needs of your family. My two toddlers associate snack time with the pantry door. Chi-Chi likes to stand next to the door and wait for someone to come by to give her a snack. So, my clock needed to be right on the pantry door.
The snack clock works best when you explain the snack times to the children. I explained the snack time then asked Nugget to describe to me how he could tell it was snack time. There is not too much education involved with the snack clock, but you will need to maintain consistency and keep the snack times the same everyday. Take this opportunity to also teach your kids about healthy snacks and where they are in your pantry. I keep all the kids snack time foods in a crate box on one of the lower racks. They know that they may have a snack from this box or the refrigerator when the green apple is by the red apple.
The kids love the snack time clock so far. Chi-Chi still needs reminders, but Nugget has really shown great improvement.
Thanks for stopping by,
