4 Things To Do Now For The Holiday Season

Thank you to Orgullosa for sponsoring this post.  I have received compensation for this post; however, all favorable opinions about these products are 100% my own.

Each holiday season feels like it’s approaching quicker than the following year to me.  Once the first day of school is done, it seems that the next day I wake up is the holiday season!  Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s celebrations are pretty big events for my family.  As you can guess, being a Latina hostess means fun gatherings with lots of food.  I tend to get a bit overwhelmed….well a LOT overwhelmed if there isn’t a plan set to tackle the holiday gatherings.  I recently shared my free printable Thanksgiving planner and it’s been a great asset!  I’m creating a special one for Christmas so stay tuned for that.  To help us all get pumped and prepped for the holiday festivities, I’ve partnered with Orgullosa.com to bring you 4 things to do now for the holiday season!

Review Holiday Decor

It’s time to dust off those boxes filled with holiday decor from your basement.  Take inventory of what items you have and be sure to donate any decor pieces you’re not loving anymore.  It’s hard for me to let go of any piece of decor, but I find it comforting to know that they will make someone else very happy this holiday season.

While you’re rummaging through the boxes, decide on a theme you’d like for your holiday decor.  Many of the items you have can be updated with paint or embellishments, so don’t feel that you have to stick with the colors of the decor piece.  Be sure to clean off those decor pieces with some moistened Bounty paper towels.  You’ll be surprised how dusty things can get even stored in a box!

Start with Simple Decor

Usher in the holiday season with simple vignettes.  No need to go full on Christmas decor just yet.  Creating simple vignettes around your home that transition easily between Thanksgiving and early winter can give you more time enjoy each holiday separately.  I love Christmas, but hosting a big Thanksgiving dinner with Christmas decor throughout the home can be a little confusing….especially for the photos.  🙂

Use winter pinecones throughout your home to usher in the holiday season.  Be sure to clean off those surfaces with a good cleaner and some Bounty paper towels.  My mother goes on a complete cleaning venture when she prepares her home for holiday gatherings.  She whips out her cleaner and a roll of Bounty and is off to clean each corner of her home.  She’s always told me that the two most important places to have spotless when people come over is the kitchen and bathroom.

Pile Up The Paper Products!

This may be obvious, but I can’t tell you how many times I have hosted a gathering and have had people asking where the extra paper towels are only to be completely out!  Stocking up on Bounty paper towels and Charmin toilet paper is something that we always do 5-7 days before any of our holiday gatherings.  In fact, I just stocked up on these two items on Sunday in preparation for Thanksgiving.  Be sure to have these items stocked up in a visible place so that anyone can grab and replace if needed.  I’ve been in the midst of cooking when someone asks me where the paper towels are.  I inevitably end up fetching it myself even after a 2 minute detailed description on where to find them.

So Fresh and So Clean!

Speaking of cooking, you’ll want to have your hands nice and soft after all that food prep.  There is nothing worse than dry hands during the cold holiday season.  I love having a sugar scrub next to my kitchen sink for that extra clean feeling.  Plus, sugar scrubs are wonderful exfoliants and help take off the raw food smell from your hands.  Last year I created a lemon and olive oil sugar scrub.  This year, I decided to mix up a batch using Dawn soap.

Mix 2/3 part sugar to 1/3 part Dawn soap.  You can’t mess this up at all!  If you notice that the consistency needs to be more grainy, just add more sugar.  Too much grain?  Then add more Dawn soap.  It’s super easy!  Now your hands will be extra clean and soft.  I just have to block my teen daughter from taking it all.  She adores sugar scrubs and did hide a few of my jars last time.  Tie a beautiful bow or attach a personalized sticker to use as an easy DIY gift this holiday season.
