The Inspiration Behind My Style
Hola!
Today is the last post for the Behind the Blogger series hosted by Jess of Domicile 37. The series was a look at 5 bloggers, outside and in, and the various facets of their life. If you haven’t read the previous posts, feel free to catch up! Today, Jess asked us to share the inspirations behind our style.
I was looking forward to this particular post, because I am often asked about my home style. What is the motivation to use so much color? Why do I need to have a “filled” rather than a minimalistic room? I have two sisters and my particular style is drastically different than theirs. So, today we are going behind this blog to see where I seek my inspiration and how it translates into my style.
As a military brat, I was exposed to several various cultures in my childhood. These cultures and my appreciation of them drives much of my style. My home is filled with features of Spanish colonial style, elements of the tropics/caribbean, Asian chinoiserie accents among many others. My global, eclectic style is an expression of a mix of several European styles and even American farmhouse style at times. My decor favorites are inspired by my upbringing. The love of florals and plants from the Tropics and beyond; the different patterns and textiles from around the globe seen during my travels, as well as the love blue and white porcelain I attribute to my time in Europe.
Designers who influence me are also those who showcase a mix of several elements of decor style and allow their home to express a traveler’s life. Almost all of my inspiration at this time comes from either Eddie Ross, who is known for mixing modern elements with vintage pieces, and Justina Blakeney, whose design showcases bohemian life at its finest.
When it comes to other facets of home life, my love of color and cultural expression is highly noticeable. Most of my DIY crafts, projects, and room makeovers exhibit a colorful global style. Here are some of my more recent projects.
My love of global, eclectic elements has crossed into fashion as well. Though, that’s a venture that I haven’t shared just yet but will in the future. I have loved sharing a bit of my motivation and
inspiration. Be sure to visit my friends’ blogs and see what inspires them.
