Summer Reading Logs For Kids in Circus Theme

The kids are out of school…..Now what?!

Just one day out of school and the kids are already saying they are bored.  I feel that the younger they are the more dependent they are on the school routine they’ve been following for 9 months.  It is hard to wake up the next day and not know what to do with yourself…..if you are 5.  My list of housework and normal mommy duties just gets longer during the summer.  To keep the kids entertained and their little minds active, I’ve created a fun circus themed reading log.  Scroll down to see how you can download your free copy!

Summer Reading Logs

Not only does the reading log give the kids a summer goal, but it also makes it fun to read by instructing them to cut out a circus themed picture for every book read and pasting it on a circus scene.  There are 20 circus pictures they can use to complete a fun circus scene.  That’s 20 books easily read over the course of the summer.  (I’ll be sharing another log later this summer so stay tuned!).  This type of reading log is easy for your younger readers ages 3-5 as well as your older kindergarten or first grade readers.

Speaking of kindergarten readers, my son just finished kindergarten and is heading to the first grade.  He needs a little more of a challenge.  So, I’ve created a book report form which he can draw a picture of his favorite part of the book and then explain the illustration in the lines below.  Site word practice…check…..punctuation practice….check……writing and grammar practice…check and check.

There is also a “Books I Read” book review sheet where your little reader can write the title of the book and rate it from 1-4 stars.  Expand on the activity by asking questions about the book and why they gave it however many stars.

I’ll be sharing more of the summer activities we’re doing around the house over the summer months.  Download your free copy of the Circus themed reading log here or click the image below.  Hopefully they bring you some sanity as they do to me. 🙂  Pin this post to remember it this summer and share with your fellow mommies…they’ll thank you for it.
