Small Laundry Room Makeover
My small, windowless laundry room is no more! Today is room reveal day for the New Year New Room Refresh challenge.
If you are just joining in today, I challenged some of my friends to refresh a space during the month of January to kick off the New Year with a new room. We have been sharing our progress the last four weeks and today is the final reveal! I chose to refresh my dated, bland laundry room that is small and windowless.
Week 1: Room Before Photos // Week 2: Design Plans // Week 3: Wallpapering
Though I had to take some tasks off my to-do list this round, for reasons I’ll share shortly, I’m rather proud of how the laundry room looks now. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s rooms today! Be sure to click on all the links to see their final reveals at the end of this post.
This week was a very tough week to work on the laundry room. I had to get my first dose of the COVID vaccine and I was completely exhausted afterward. I’ve heard of exhaustion and malaise as a side effect, but I wasn’t expecting it to be as bad as it was. Have you received your vaccine and experienced any side effects?
Well, the exhaustion lasted 2 days and I lost the 2 days I had planned to work on upgrading the flooring. I still plan to update the flooring with laminate barnwood flooring and will share that project at a later date. I was able to finish the majority of the remaining projects and love how the laundry room looks now!
Here is my original design plan. You can tell that I decided to swap out the lamp for a woven bamboo lamp from Ikea I once had in the kitchen. This brings a much more fresh, organic vibe in the sea of blue wallpaper and blue painted cabinets. I also added an original print I made myself!
The Aztec Suns wallpaper from Milton and King is a showstopper in this room. I created a statement room that you wouldn’t mind being in by covering all the walls in this bold, indigo wallpaper. Did you follow the process on my Instagram stories? I like sharing my progress in videos on Instagram, so be sure that you are catching those videos too. I also have some tips for beginning your journey in wallpaper installation for those who want to jump in and give it a go. Milton and King’s signature paste the wall wallpaper is one I highly recommend and very user friendly.
One of my favorite elements to add in a room is a touch of global style. I used a painted Indian tray to hold my laundry cleaning items. Thrifted glasses make excellent containers for the laundry pods and laundry powder. It’s actually part of my signature global style decorating to-dos! The rugs were bold runners inspired by Persian and were layered to make a continuous floor covering. These colorful pops really complement the blue painted cabinets. I just love how the Alice White paint from Behr makes the cabinets seem much lighter and modern. Adding a few pulls to the cabinets completes the look!
Are you ready to tackle your laundry room? What room would you do for the New Year New Room Refresh challenge? Stay tuned friends as I have just the treat to help you take the challenge very soon. In the meantime, head on over to my friend’s sites to check out their room reveals too!
