Semi-Homemade Pound Cake
Have guests coming for the holiday? Create an easy semi-homemade pound cake dessert that’ll look like you made it yourself!
Day 11 of A Very Global Christmas and I’m excited to share some quick Christmas recipes! One of my favorite tv shows on Food Network was Sandra Lee’s Semi-Homemade. I’ve shared before how Sandra Lee changed my life showing how easy it was to create tasty meals with some pre-made ingredients. Well, today I’m sharing my semi-homemade pound cake dessert! It’s easy enough to whip up anytime you have unexpected company show up and can be modified for the times you have a little more time to prepare for a dinner party. Be sure to head over to Up To Date Interiors for Kathy’s delicious signature Christmas cocktail infused spirits recipe at the end of this post.
Semi-Homemade Pound Cake
Before trying this dessert, I had never been a fan of pound cake. I found that the ones I’ve tasted before were dry and tasteless. I was surprised at how tasty and moist the Entenmann’s mini pound cakes were. Not only are these little pound cakes super convenient (you can unwrap the cakes you’re going to use and leave the others in the box!), but they are also the perfect size for an after dinner dessert. Let me pause and say that I am not being paid to do this post, nor has Entenmann’s reached out to me to create a post for them. I’m just excited to share a quick dessert that will have your guests satisfied and impressed this holiday season.
Now, you don’t just want to unwrap the cake and place it on a plate to serve. For that semi-homemade pound cake taste, you’ll want to add a few extras to your cake. I’m a big fan of sprucing up a cake. I’ve shared 15 ways to make boxed cakes better in the past and each idea has been a hit among family and friends.
Quick Version
You get company and need to serve a coffee and dessert. Don’t fret, just unwrap a few of the mini pound cakes and spread or pipe on some whipped vanilla frosting to the top of your pound cake. No need to cover the entire piece of cake, just a corner will suffice. You can use warm icing dripped on top of the cake or sifted powdered sugar as a topper instead. Add some mint and fresh berries to finish off your cake.
Spruced Version
Brush on a very thin layer of lemon curd to the top of your cake. You may need to add a little water to the curd to allow the lemon curd to brush on easier. Then, add some whipped vanilla frosting to the top. If you have a frosting tip and a plastic bag handy, you can pipe on the frosting to make a pretty presentation. Have you seen this nifty hack before? Just snip a bit from the corner of a plastic snack size bag and gently push the frosting tip 1/4 of the way through. You’ve just made a quick frosting bag! Add mint and fresh berries to complete the dish.
Super simple right?! I wouldn’t know this was a packaged pound cake if someone served it to me. Disclose the packaged pound cake or not. That’s completely your choice, but I have a feeling that people will just be too busy stuffing their mouths with this tasty pound cake. Head on over to Up To Date Interiors for a signature Christmas cocktail you’re not going to want to miss.
