Painted Picnic Basket Makeover
The weather is perfect for a picnic! Update your basket with this painted picnic basket makeover tutorial!
What’s the first thing you do after it’s been raining for over a week….probably not have a picnic, but I tried it anyway! Today, I’m teaming up with Shauna of Satori Design For Living again for the last day of the Outdoor Extravaganza. This weeks’ theme is paint/build and I’m sharing a painted picnic basket makeover for all those upcoming summer picnics. I shared pretty otomi inspired coasters and Anthropologie inspired planters already. Be sure to visit all the other fabulous ideas being shared at the end of this post.
DIY Painted Picnic Basket
I’m not ashamed of sharing that I’m this gal is not a fan of spending all day outside. The sun is no longer a best friend of mine, but I can totally do with a couple hours of fresh summer air especially if it comes with a picnic basket. I gave an old picnic basket a makeover with spray paint. This tutorial is super easy and quick to do with an old picnic basket or one found at a thrift store. Here is how the basket looked before the makeover.
Start by spraying the basket with two coats of a white spray paint. I chose an ivory shade to keep the basket looking natural. You could stop right here, if you wanted to give your basket a super simple makeover. I spruced up my basket even more by adding parallelogram shapes on half of the basket.
These shapes can be seen on many African storage baskets. I even spotted a couple of West Elm baskets with these shapes on them too. To create this pattern, cut the Frog Tape into pieces and stick onto the basket. Spray half or the entire basket with two coats of the second color. Remove the tape a few minutes after spraying to allow the basket to dry without the tape.
Pick a great spot and enjoy your picnic. Our flowers are finally in bloom and I couldn’t help but to set up camp right next to the flowers. We probably need to cut down some of the flowers since our front lawn is overgrown with flowers. Looks beautiful, but it can be a little troublesome to walk through. In fact, just a couple hours after I took these pictures I spotted a snake in the same spot! More reason to get a gate installed blocking the forest area from our yard.
Stay tuned for a few summer picnic recipes coming to the blog. In the meantime, I’ll be enjoying a glass of wine, some snacks, and a great book outside. Hopefully the snake is no where to be found. :/
