How To Style A Global Eclectic Entryway

I’m still feeling the rush of the New, Year.  You know, that feeling of utter motivation when you really believe that you can accomplish anything.  It’s a great feeling, but now I have my hands in almost every part of the house doing projects!  However, I was able to finish putting away the Christmas decor at the front of the house.  Let’s kick off a new year full of decor inspiration by styling the entryway.

Before decorating your entryway, you need to decide what features you need.  This isn’t the first garage entryway makeover I’ve done.  However, my prior entryway didn’t suit our needs.  The big calendar just wasn’t used as much as I had hoped.  My husband refused to use the calendar since he prefers google calendar.  The shelf was too high for the kid’s at the time and there wasn’t a place to store their shoes other than the coat closet, which they couldn’t open.
So, for my new entryway, I decided that I needed:
1. The shelf placed at an appropriate height for the kids
2.  A place for shoes
3.  Seating to use when placing or removing shoes
4.  Clock

Once the hubs securely installed the shelf, I started the entryway decor by adding the orange letter holder I made from thrifted thanksgiving place card holders.  My aim was to have a nice popping letter holder to not only let the family know that the mail arrived, but also to leave any important notes.  I tend to forget to do certain tasks.  Ask me how my Kindergarten teacher looked and I could tell you.  Ask me to pick up paper towels when I go to the store and I’ll probably forget.  The letter holder can be used to leave a note for myself too!

Here are a few tips to help you get the global look for your garage entryway.

1.  Goodwill Hunting.
Head on over to the thrift store and scout the art and plate section.  I found all the art work and china plate at the thrift store.  You’ll always find interesting art pieces at thrift stores, but keep an eye out for global influenced patterns or paintings.  Did I mention that the farmhouse style shelf was also a thrifty find?  The wood decor area is always on my thrifting list.  I find great items that sometimes only require a bit of paint.  I have plans to give this shelf a more global appeal.  Stay tuned for that project.

2.  Don’t Table It, Basket It.
I shopped my home for a basket to house all the shoes and I can truthfully say that I love this shoe basket.  Shoes are always thrown about my entryway.  Yesterday, Nugget placed his shoes directly in the basket without being asked.  Whoo hoo, progress!

3.  This Chair Was Just Right.
There isn’t a large area around my entryway.  So, I had to find the perfectly sized seating that fit the space and didn’t block the door.  My DIY Indian Inlay stenciled chair was perfectly sized for the space under the shelf.  I added a sheep skin rug throw and pillow to give the chair a greater global appeal. Nothing reads global than a Scandanavian sheep skin rug and a dark Moorish style pillow.  This sheep skin rug is getting plenty of usage around my casa.  I previously used it as a runner for my winter tablescape.

4.  Top Off The Look With Global Inspired Accents
I used a thrifted mini clock that looked a bit Parisian, a globe from HomeGoods, and a beautiful arrangement of fresh Bells of Ireland mixed with white Tulips to finish the styling of the shelf.   Oh, and I couldn’t resist adding something blue.  Jess from Domicile 37 sent me me a beautiful blue and white paper weight for Christmas.
