How To Make Terra Cotta Bells
Today is all about decorating those table surfaces! These DIY terra cotta bells are too cute not to have on your table or hanging on your mantel. It would be almost a faux pas to have a mediterranean theme this Christmas and not feature terra cotta. I’m so excited to be sharing this other side to my modern mediterranean Christmas theme today. Terra Cotta Christmas Decor
I’m a huge fan of terra cotta and have used it frequently in home decor. In fact, I had a few projects last year using terra cotta including my mini Moroccan planter ornaments. I even had a few laying at the bottom of last years botanical Christmas tree.
This year, I’m using the natural colors of terra cotta and infusing some boho, global style to it. I discovered that these cute terra cotta pots would make great bells as a happy accident. Leave it to kids to use their imagination and creativity, because it was my kids who put bells into them last year. Though they used the smaller bells to race who would fill their pots faster, I’m using the larger bells to create these super cute terra cotta bells.
These DIY Christmas bells make for family fun too! Use them to start a sing-along Christmas day, as jingles during family games, or as kissing bells for couples on New Year’s Eve. The bells are super easy and fun to create. If you don’t happen to have terra cotta pots, you can create a faux terra cotta effect using my DIY terra cotta painting technique on recycled items.
DIY Terra Cotta Bells
There are several different iterations you can do to make your own unique terra cotta Christmas bell. However, these are the steps I took to make mine. For this project you will need the following materials.
Materials needed:
- Mini terra cotta pots
- Faux foliage
- Large and small Gold bells (similar ones linked)
- Macrame rope
- Glue gun
- Scissors
- Ruffled ribbon (from Joann craft store)
How to make Terra Cotta Bells
- Cut and thread macrame rope through the top look of a large gold bell.
- Pull the macrame rope through the drainage hold of the mini terra cotta pot.
- Insert foliage into the drainage hold of the mini terracotta pot and use hot glue to secure to the inside of the pot.
- Create a tassel with the macrame rope, then use the top tassel ropes to tie around the faux foliage and bell macrame rope. Cut a piece of macrame rope and tie around all of the items for extra security. Then, gather all the macrame rope ends and braid together to create a braided bell handle. Use a small piece of rope to tie the braid at the end.
- Cut about 9 inches of the ruffled ribbon and tie to the entire group of items at the top of the terra cotta pot.
- Use hot glue to add two small gold bells to the top of the bell.
- Style bells on dining table, mantel, or coffee table for a boho terra cotta Christmas decor look.
I’m looking forward to all the Christmas cheer and singing this year. The kids always put on a Christmas show on Christmas eve and it is the cutest thing ever! These DIY terra cotta Christmas bells would be a fun element to add to their show.
