Homemade Outdoor Chalk Paint: Spanish Sabado #8

The temperature has been in the 90’s all week here in Maryland and the kids have been eager to get out of the house.  This week, we decided to practice our motor skills using homemade chalk paint.  I can’t take credit for this recipe, as a teacher informed me of it.  It was a big hit in my home and I knew I had to share it.  You can use ingredients you have right in your pantry.
The paint mixture is made up of 3 tablespoons of cornstarch mixed with 2 cups of water.  The
mixture should be thin.  Don’t be concerned with the consistency too much.  If you want to add color, you will need A LOT of food coloring for it to show up on the concrete.
Use a paint container if you have it, but you can easily put the mixture in a cup or bowl.  I used these bubble containers I had on hand.  The bubbles ran out, but the container is spill proof so I have kept it for a while.  I scored these at TJ Maxx.
When you begin using the paint outdoors, you will see it come out pretty light in color.  Then, a few seconds later, the paint will darken.  We used it on our deck, but I would encourage you to use it on the sidewalk instead.  The paint washes off much easier on the concrete.  The rain took it right off.  However, the wood from the deck needed a little scrubbing.

Enjoy getting out and playing in the sun!
