Global Inspired, Eclectic Living Room Makeover: Week 4 One Room Challenge

Hola,

It’s time to check in on my global inspired, eclectic living room makeover as part of the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda at Calling It Home.  If you are new to Casa Watkins, I’ll say a bit about this challenge.  Twice a year, Linda holds the One Room Challenge where she challenges bloggers and designers to makeover a room in 6 weeks!  We are currently on week 4.  Linda has official participants who share their progress every Wednesday and holds a link-up for guest participants (like me!) who share on Thursday.  If you haven’t checked out the amazing room progress from the designers, be sure to visit her blog.
Catch up on my progress!
This past weekend, I laid in bed thinking of all the tasks that had to be done by Thursday for the One Room Challenge.  I had a melt down last week and felt completely overwhelmed about my table set.  I couldn’t decide whether to paint it or replace it with another table in my basement.  Thank you sweet friends for all your words of encouragement last week.

Just a day later, I came across the most beautiful table set on Craigslist.  Not only was this table set a sign to muster forward with the challenge, but it was a great price!  The set is a vintage Vari wood table set from Indonesia and I am over the moon in love with it.

I just can’t get enough of the tables.  The braided trim is stunning and brings a hand-crafted look to my room.

My previous end table was too high for the sofa and looked very bulky.  The new end table looks much lighter and the glass opens up the space.

I used the second end table to create a little nook.  The chair makeover is on my to-do list for next week.

Did you see my lamps?  I replaced the lamp shade with a white drum shade from Target.  I am still feeling it out, so I’ve left the plastic on until I decide whether to keep or replace it.  What do you think? Yay or Nay?

How many times have you purchased a thrift store piece or received a hand-me-down piece of furniture thinking you’ll make it over within days of receiving it?  I have an entire basement full of such items.  It’s an embarrassing collection, but full of items that I’ve forgotten about.  I was moving the last bit of stuff out of the living room into the basement when I came across a chair I had purchased from a swap site early this Summer!  I was thinking to use it for my living room makeover.  I could swap it for the previous chair or place it on the opposite side of the room.  Hmmm..decisions, decisions.  I do like the green color and may just keep the chair green.

I also made headway with the pillows.  My pillows from Aloriam look fabulous mixed with a few pillows I already had on hand.  The sheepskin rugs from Ikea add a touch of Scandinavian style.  I didn’t think that I was a fur person, but these sheepskin rugs are so pretty and warm up the couch.

The Frida pillow is my favorite pillow of all time!  The colors and graphics are perfection and can work for many other decor styles.  I also received my green Kravet pillow from Aloriam, which looks great against the rusty orange and teal pillow.  If you haven’t checked out Aloriam’s shop on Etsy, it is a must!

The doorbell rang while I was snapping pictures today.  It was my curtains! Well, the mailman with my curtains, lol.  It was getting too late to hang them, so that will be shared next week.

I also need to stencil the entryway wall, paint the chair, and then start my favorite part of it all…accessorizing!  I just love seeing a room accessorized with lovely accent pieces.   My china cabinet has been picking up any and everything from around the house while I’ve been completing the makeover.  It’s so messy.  Can’t wait to organize and update the goodies.

Be sure to come back and see the progress I’ve made to my room next week.  I’m shooting to finish by next weekend since the final reveal is the following Thursday.  I’ll be sharing more room progress via twitter and instagram, so be sure to follow me!

I’ve also started to pin some great global accent pieces to Pinterest.  Get the Global Look is a board that is dedicated to sharing global accents, decor, and inspirational photos.  I’ll also be sharing my own global inspired DIY projects to that board!  I welcome you to follow me on Pinterest and to follow Get the Global Look board.
Thanks for stopping by my casa!
