First Floor Home Tour and 30 Day Room Makeover Challenge

The day has come to tour the first floor of Casa Watkins.  I was delaying posting the pictures of the house, because I was embarrassed about the drab state of the house.

I shared before that we had a kitchen fire two days before Christmas 2013 and it took months of professional cleaning, painting, and duct work clearing before I could even begin updating the decor.  The house wasn’t even ready to decorate until this past March.

So, here we are now…2015 and I am just now starting to get the decor back up.

Let me give you some insight in to what I was walking into.  My husband purchased the house as a new construction in 2007.  I moved in after we were married in 2010.  The house was filled with bulky, masculine furniture which sat in a sea of white builder grade paint walls.  Not my cup of tea at all.  I have started decorating almost every room since then, but have not finished a single one.

I decided that I would challenge myself to complete 30 day makeovers on all the rooms.  Each room will have 30 days dedicated toward completing the makeover and I can move on to the next room should I finish early.  Since I have already completed the entryway, I think I will move clockwise and makeover either the powder room or the laundry room.

Please take a look of how far I have come and follow me as I update these spaces.

Disclaimer: I apologize for the poor quality and the mess of the original pictures.  I wasn’t expecting to have anyone see those pictures at the time, plus Nugget and Chi-Chi were 2 and 1 years old and I simply didn’t have time to keep every room in order.

Front Entryway and Living Room

Here is a before picture of the view of the entryway from the living room.

BEFORE

These next two pictures were taken after we painted the walls Popular Gray by Sherwin-Williams and rearranged the living room furniture.

You can read all the details about my entryway makeover by clicking the image below.

Garage Entry and Staircase

BEFORE

We update the walls by having them painted the same Popular Gray color and placing a shelf by the garage door.

PROGRESS

I recently updated the shelf using some fabric and gold paint.  I also changed the shelf accessories to incorporate more green accents.

UPDATED

The Powder Room

BEFORE

The next picture is after the walls were painted with Sherwin Williams Commodore.

PROGRESS

We were potty training Nugget at the time.  I wish I would have removed it for the picture, but at least you get to see real life representations of my home.

The Kitchen

BEFORE

Yes, my kitchen was this messy.  I have cleared off most of the appliances from my counters since then, but the kitchen still needs a major makeover.  The kitchen has not changed much since I moved in, but I’m looking forward to completing this room.

The Family Room

BEFORE

Update: The walls were painted with Versatile Gray by Sherwin Williams.  White mantle was placed and we used a buffet table that I painted yellow as a tv stand.  This is a picture from last week before I took the Christmas decor down.

PROGRESS

I’m not liking the yellow color of the tv stand anymore, so this is probably the first piece of furniture I will paint.  I have a lot of ideas for this room.

The Dining Room

BEFORE

I took a risk here and painted this room Tradewind by Sherwin Williams.  I also attempted an empty frame gallery wall art.  I’m not sure if I still like this wall art.  I will most likely change it.

The Laundry Room

BEFORE

The laundry room is another room that is in need of a makeover. We painted the walls Melange Green by Sherwin Williams and the room is definitely bright now.  Maybe a little too bright. I have some ideas of how to tone down these bright walls.
