What to pack in a family travel medical kit

Be prepared for your next family vacation with this family travel medical kit checklist!

Have you taken your summer family vacation yet?  We took a family vacation in the early June and had an amazing time onboard our cruise…more than I thought I could have honestly.  I was super excited about how efficiently I packed this trip.  I often forget to pack some sort of vital piece of clothing.  For this trip, I packed the kids’ luggage 5 days in advance and this helped tremendously.  I used a few checklists to keep me organized since traveling with children can be quite the headache if you’re not prepared.  Today, I’m sharing my family travel medical kit checklist with you!  Medical kits can be sometimes be overlooked or under packed and put a damper on your travelling.  Bandaids don’t solve everything, so packing a well prepared family medical kit is a must.

Speaking of putting a damper on things, having children so far apart in age can sometimes put a damper on doing activities together as a family.  However, I was super impressed with how Carnival had children centered activities as well as the traditional entertainment for us older cruisers.  Pink is now 18 and the 17 and under club was apparently “not her scene.”  I wasn’t aware that 18 instantly meant that you couldn’t hang around slightly younger kids.  She mostly hung around us and it was fun to connect once again with our teenager.  Pink gets so caught up with her job and friends that we miss spending time together as a family.  Nugget (5 years old) and Chi-Chi (4 years old) also had a blast!  They didn’t let the awful weather ruin their fun.  California was a shocking low 70s while back in Maryland the temps were as high as 90!

I found a super cute zippered medical pouch at Target the other day.  It’s made by OhJoy and it’s the perfect size for traveling.  The two compartments make it easy for me to pack and separate for each child, if need be.  I included the First Aid essentials items (check out all the items listed on my checklist) such as bandages, antibiotic ointment, gauze pads, etc along with some emergency medications like children’s Tylenol and Benedryl.

It helps to keep the bandages and antibiotic ointment in the front pockets.  We all know how many times we go looking for bandaids and can’t find them when we need them.  On the bottom of the checklist are open spots for you to list any other medications your family may need.

**Here’s a tip.  My kids use saline nose spray to help with any dry noses and congested noses.  Did you know you can use saline spray to clean boo-boos too?!  The spray nozzle works great to clean wounds when out of the house.  Simply spray the wound with the saline to wash away any dirt or residue and apply your antibiotic ointment before placing a bandage.  **

I hope you enjoy this checklist and it brings you as much peace of mind as it did for me!  Feel free to share this post with your friends and family as they prepare to travel this season.
