Do you normally decorate the playroom or kids’ room for Christmas? This is my first time doing a little bit of Christmas decorating in the playroom and I’m happy to be joining Chelsea of Two Twenty One for a Kid Christmas Tour. If you’re coming from Making Home Base, Welcome! I’m such a fan of Chelsea C. and her beautiful home. Be sure to visit all the wonderful sites listed at the end of this post for additional ideas for decorating kid spaces.
When I revealed our tropical inspired Christmas living room, I shared that the two spaces being utilized during the renovations these days are the family room and playroom. Seeing that I completely decorated the family room tree on my own, I offered the kids’ the opportunity to decorate their own tree in the playroom. I’m actually planning a complete makeover of the playroom next year, so this also serves as a bit of a before piece. I’m not sure I’ve ever shared our playroom before actually.
Playroom Christmas Decor Ideas
I wanted to keep all the playroom decor pretty simple and easy, yet offering the kids a fun and festive area to play. Here are some easy playroom Christmas decor ideas you can do too!
Mix the craft ornaments with purchased
I have kept practically every single one of the kids’ diy ornaments and hang them on the tree each year. The kiddos absolutely love seeing their old ornaments on the tree. Their faces just light up with pride when they get to hang them on the tree. Balance those cute, crafty ornaments with purchased ornaments. I also recommend that you keep the purchased ornaments around the same palette color so that the kids’ ornaments can shine without competing for attention.
Reading is FUNdamental
Now that the kids are reading on their own, I like to provide them with age appropriate books with seasonal topics. Books about snow, Christmas, the Nativity, Santa, etc. help create a seasonal vibe in minutes. Lay them on a small table, within a basket, or next to a comfy reading chair to invite the kids to read.
Take Fun Decor Twists
The kids’ absolutely adored the little lego Christmas tree I created. Seeing their toys reinvented into Christmas ornaments was such a funny thing, yet cool idea, to them. Try your hand at reimagining or reinventing kid toys into fun Christmas elements. Decorate their play kitchen with Christmas tree ornaments, doll houses with miniature versions of decor you have in your home, or place mini Santa hats on their favorites toys.
