Dollar tree halloween sign pinkoween makeover

Makeover a dollar tree halloween sign into a trendy pinkoween and whimsical decor piece for your mantel or shelf!

Halloween is coming and I’lm decorating for the holiday for practically the first time EVER! The kids have always wanted me to decorate for Halloween as elaborately as I do for Christmas. Though I am no where near that, I’m happy to step up my Halloween game a bit more this year. So, I shopped the dollar tree to get a few items to makeover and decorate the house. First up, a whimsical pink dollar tree halloween sign makeover!

Just a bunch of WHIMSICAL Hocus Pocus!

Before diving into this makeover, I should share that my kids are not into the scary and gory type of Halloween and neither am I. You will not find any bloody body parts or murder scenes at our house. What you will find is a more spooky fantasy and whimsy like halloween. Think cute witches, garden fairies, colorful pumpkins, and the wizarding world of Harry Potter!

I recently shared how I found a few colorful halloween items at the craft store that are also in the cute halloween style I prefer. While I’ll share the whimsy halloween aesthetic for these upcoming halloween projects, you can complete any of these projects to meet your own version of halloween. Okay! Let’s get to it!

How to makeover a dollar tree halloween sign

The metal halloween sign from the dollar tree was okay, but it needed a bit more whimsy and A LOT more color. A few coats of spray paint can do wonders to any metal sign, so I used a coral colored spray paint to give this metal sign an entirely different look. If you’re not a fan of pink, be sure to use any other color you wish. You may want to use a pastel purple or baby blue for a pastel halloween theme!

After spraying the coral base coat , I taped off the bottom of the sign so that I could give the witch’s hat part of the sign a couple coats of a pastel pink color. I added one spray of magenta to the tip of the hat and created an ombre effect. Now we have a pink halloween sign perfect for your pinkoween halloween. But, I wanted to amp up the whimsy so I added a few more elements to the sign.

Once the sign was dry, I brought the stars back to life with some gold paint. I love using this Decoart gold paint for a beautiful gold finish. Because I wanted to increase the whimsy and magical feel of the sign even more, I added moss to the stand which will coordinate with the plans I have for the mantel.
