DIY Plant Propagation Ornaments
Hey plant lovers! Merge your love of plants with Christmas with these diy plant propagation ornaments for your Christmas tree!
It’s only the first week of November and I’m already giddy thinking about Christmas. I put up the tree yesterday and decked it all out for Monday’s My Home Style Blog Hop: Christmas Tree Edition. I’ve invited some new bloggers to share their Christmas trees this year, so it’s going to be a week long event you won’t want to miss. Check out last year’s Christmas tree ideas. If you haven’t signed up for my newsletter yet, be sure to subscribe to Casa Watkins Living! Not only do you get my posts delivered to your inbox FREE, but you’ll be getting all sorts of freebies and insider goodies.
Each year I like to mix purchased and diy ornaments on my tree. Not only does it help cut down on holiday costs, but I also find it super fun creating holiday crafts like ornaments. I created these diy bohemian tribal ornaments last year. I have a few diy ornaments on my tree this year, so I thought I’d share one very….and I mean VERY..easy diy ornament today. I’ll be sharing the other ornaments after my Christmas tree reveal next week.
DIY Plant Propagation Ornaments
As you know, plants are one of my go to decorating items. I include them in my 3 P’s of Global home styling post. They are so versatile (if I can keep them alive) and make homes feel like a cozy oasis. Propagating plants is a cost effective way of bringing more plants into your home and replacing those that may have….ahem…perished.
In the spirit of the holidays, I combined my love of plants (and the need for more of them come this Spring) with Christmas and created diy plant propagation ornaments! This diy clear ornament idea is one you are sure to love.
How To Decorate Clear Ornaments
To create your own diy plant Christmas ornaments, you’ll need to get your hands on a few clear plastic fillable ornaments. Here is a great set of 25 clear ornaments. I picked up a few for a $1 each at Target, but now I’m wishing I would have ordered a larger set. Pop off the top and use clear plastic wire to wrap around the top of the ornament. I basically wrapped the wire just like I would a bread bag twist tie. Twist until its good and secure, then create a loop to hang your ornament on your tree.
Fill the ornament with water and gently insert a snip of your leaf. I opted for Pothos leaves, but you can use any leaf that propagates in water. The best thing about this diy is that you can easily remove the leaf with roots later and continue to grow them for your spring decorating.
Now you’re ready to hang these cuties on your Christmas tree. I would avoid placing them directly next to a Christmas light bulb so you don’t overheat the leaf. Be sure to keep these ornaments dry on the outside as well. Wipe off any spilled water if there is ever an accident with the ornament. I opted for plastic ornaments instead of glass for this very reason. Check out how these ornaments look on my Tropical Bohemian Christmas tree.
If you are not feeling them on your tree, you can also hang these ornaments from a wooden dowel and still use as Christmas decor. I can’t wait to share my tree with you! Remember that A Very Global Christmas also kicks off on Monday. There is so much Christmas inspiration coming your way.
