Today we are both sharing Easter egg decorating ideas. Long gone are the days of simple egg dyeing with those grocery store dye kits. Nowadays, there are so many options to decorate Easter eggs and very creative ones too! The overall joy of Easter egg decorating is still very present friends. Check out these diy folk art painted Easter eggs for example. I painted these little guys in one afternoon and it was so relaxing and enjoyable.
DIY Folk Art Easter Eggs
Painted Easter eggs make beautiful decor pieces for tables, shelves, bowl filler, and make great additions to Easter trees. I placed a few of these folk art painted Easter eggs along with the folk art birds I shared last week on my latest bohemian Easter tree for inexpensive (and quick) Easter decor. Be sure to visit Kathy of Up To Date Interiors who is sharing beautiful botanical Easter eggs today!
I have to admit that I rather enjoy coming up with different ways to decorate egg. Most packs of crafting eggs come with 6 or 12 eggs, so you can really have fun creating a variety of different eggs. I just love how these diy folk art painted Easter eggs turned out. Here is how you can create a batch for yourself.
Start by giving your eggs 2 coats of paint in festive spring colors. I used paper mache eggs to really give my eggs a handmade look.
Use a small paint brush to add folk art inspired details to each egg. Curvy brush strokes add pretty folk art details as well as dot embellishments. Mix and match a variety of patterns to make each diy painted Easter egg unique. I’ll be sharing a video tutorial of how I created these brush stroke marks, but they are quite easy to make.
The key to a beautiful folk art inspired egg is keeping the brush stroke patterns going throughout the egg. No worries if you mess up a stroke! Brush stroke mishaps just add to the handmade look of the Easter egg. Layer additional brushstrokes in other paint colors to add dimension. Then, use the back of your paintbrush to add the dot features.
Use a egg carton to allow the eggs to dry as you work on the other eggs. The paint dries pretty fast on paper mache, so the eggs were ready to paint by the time I had finished the previous Easter egg. I used a egg cup to hold the egg while I painted, but you can easily hold in your hand.
What do you think of the vibrant spring colors I used? Have you decided on an Easter color theme yet? Let me know what you’ve planned for your Easter color theme and how you would use these folk art Easter eggs in the comments below.
