DIY Botanical Christmas Wreath

It’s the third day of A Very Global Christmas and Kathy of Up To Date Interiors and I are sharing WREATHS! My Christmas theme this year is a modern Mediterranean with sea glass and botanicals. I shared pretty DIY sea glass ornaments yesterday, which I used on my modern boho, coastal Christmas tree on Day 1 of the series. This DIY botanical Christmas wreath is the perfect companion to the Christmas decor this year!

Growing up with a mother who ADORES Christmas as much as I do made Christmas decorating as a kid so much fun. My mother is a big fan of traditional colors and the entire house was decked top to bottom in green and red. She’s grown her collection of Christmas decor too! I don’t think she ever tosses anything out but adds new items each year. So, imagine how her house looks after 25 some years of an ever growing Christmas decor collection. It’s like a fun Christmas store in her house!

Traditional colors are beautiful, but going a bit out of the norm or expected is so fun for me. It’s the challenge I never signed up for! This wreath is a beautiful marriage between the traditional round Christmas ornaments and the fun non-traditional botanical touches.

Botanical Christmas Wreath

To start your Christmas wreath, head to your local craft store to get the following materials. You can also upcycle an old wreath! I upcycled a wreath a couple years ago and made a brass boho wreath.

  • Materials for DIY Botanical Christmas wreath
    • grape vine wreath
    • faux pothos plants (I used three bushes)
    • colorful round ornaments
    • glue gun

How to make a DIY botanical Christmas wreath

  1. Insert two pothos plants at the top of the wreath and glue into place

  2. Layout the ornaments until you like the arrangement, then glue onto the wreath.

  3. Fill in the empty pockets by snipping pothos leaves from the third bush and glue into place. Repeat until the wreath is full.

Adding non-traditional botanical elements to a Christmas tree is a move I fell in love with last year when I decorated my botanical Christmas tree. However, placing it on a wreath can totally read NON-CHRISTMAS. So, I decided to mix in some ornaments inspired by the colors of the sea glass I’ve been using this year.

I placed this wreath in my office for the moment until I get the rest of the house done after Thanksgiving. It may stay here, because it is way too cute to move. Chi-Chi’s birthday is next week and having Thanksgiving, then her birthday makes us have to swap between fall decor to birthday decor then to Christmas decor. It’s like an overnight store change up over here!

Speaking of cute, Kathy created a super cute DIY Pomegranate wreath that you just have to see! This wreath is the perfect addition to her Pomegranate tree she shared yesterday. I just adore how her Christmas decor is natural , woodsy, yet modern. Head over to Up To Date Interiors to check out all her Christmas decorating ideas for A Very Global Christmas.
