Decorating The Dining Room For Fall

Though I have received product for this post, all opinions on the gorgeous rug are mine and mine alone!

It’s finally cooled down and feeling like fall here in Maryland!  I’m finishing off my room refreshes and today am tackling the dining room.  My dining room is not as “busy” as the rest of my home.  Primarily because the patterns in the dining room are pretty bold as is.  When tackling a room with power patterns, those that command attention, sometimes it’s just best to keep the remaining aspects of the room simple.  Today, I’m joining Caroline of Organize Nashville in sharing my tips for decorating the dining room for fall as part of the simply seasonal fall hop.  Be sure to check out the other bloggers sharing their fall tips by clicking the links at the end of my post!

5 tips for infusing global style into a dining room for fall!

The dining room typically gets used more often during the fall and winter seasons.  On occasion, I’ve had the dining room all set up with a full tablescape including seasonal decor.  For this fall, I opted for a more simplistic styling featuring globally influenced accents.  Here are my 5 tips for decorating the dining room for fall with simple, global style!

Decorating The Dining Room For Fall

1.  Select an inspiration color palette to coordinate your seasonal decor.

This fall, I’m going for a bold mix of colors.  I coordinated the traditional fall colors with pops of non traditional fall tones in my family room and wanted the same in my dining room.  My dining room was in need of a new color palette.  To make the biggest impact, I searched for a rug with a bold palette that could work with fall tones and my silvery blue walls.  I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw this super bold Madge Manorial Medallion rug by RugsUSA and had to have it in my dining room.  The new medallion rug mixes my love of bold non traditional fall colors with the traditional fall color tones.  The effect is a complete and utter color explosion perfect for fall.  I used the pops of color within the rug to coordinate the rest of the fall refresh of the room.

2.  Create a fall centerpiece with seasonal items.

I love a good bowl display on a table.  I recently been eyeing a great dough bowl for my dining room table, but discovered that my hammam bowls make great bowl centerpieces as well.  Create a beautiful global style bowl centerpiece easily using hammam bowls, pinecones, dollar store mini pumpkins, and small faux willow sprigs.  These hammam bowls are so versatile for decorating and I recently shared how I used one for my fall entryway.  Though, I’ve come up with several other uses for hammam bowls which you should see too (5 Ways to Decorate with Hammam Bowls).

3.  Don’t forget seasonal blooms in your decor!

No table is complete without some good seasonal blooms.  We happen to live rather close to a farm that always grows the most beautiful sunflowers at the start of every fall season.  Every year, there are masses of families lining up to take their fall family photos next to these souring flowers.  And every year I plan to head out there and miss it!!!  Whomp Whomp….  Hopefully, I can make it there next year, but until then I like to use seasonal blooms throughout my home.  Don’t forget that you can include plants into your fall decorating too!  Last week, I shared a global boho tablescape featuring plants!

4.  Decorate the table with simple tablescape.

When not in use, a simple stack of plates, centerpiece, and pretty napkins is all you need.  Whip out those plates from their cabinet and display them with some fall thingies.  Yes, thingies is a word now.  Place pine cones, mini pumpkins, feathers, apples, or other seasonal items that make your home feel like home on your dining room table.

5.  Include colorful global textiles!

Don’t forget about those global textiles!  They truly can catapult your room into a sensational global style room.  You can change out your accent rugs just like you swap out pillows by using layered rugs.  I kept my woven sisal rug and simply swapped out the top 5′ 7″ rug for the the Madge Manorial Medallion rug.  This layered rug method creates global ambiance without burning a hole in your wallet!  Not only are the rugs at RugsUSA great quality, but they are priced so well that you can swap out your accent rug seasonally!  Coordinate global blankets, like Mexican blankets, with embroidered Indian pillows to complete your fall look!
