Decorating a Cozy, Bohemian Woodland Christmas Tree and Living Room
Christmas is my most favorite time to decorate. Yes, it is my favorite holiday and that adds to the excitement, but I also love to challenge myself each year to create a new theme for our holiday decor. I’ve done a botanical theme Christmas tree, a colorful serape theme Christmas tree, and even a Caribbean Christmas theme in the past. You can see all my past Boho Christmas decorating ideas for more fun, Christmas decor inspiration. This year, was probably the most challenging. Why? Because, I chose a very popular Christmas theme and then globalized it to make it my own.
My cozy, bohemian woodland Christmas tree and living room turned out much better than I thought! I know this theme usually emphasizes neutrals, is heavy on the knits, loads of rustic touches, and tends to use a lot of galvanized metal finishes; however I think this bohemian version is right up our alley! Take a look at how I infused rustic, woodland themed Christmas decor and gave it a global bohemian twist.
I’m happy to be joining Jen Rizzo on her annual Holiday Housewalk today for even more Christmas inspiration all week long! Be sure to check out all the homes shared by starting the housewalk at the beginning. If you’re coming from Kelly Elko, hello and welcome! I just adore how Kelly decorates with such vintage pizazz. I’m always jealous of her thrift scores, they’re amazing!
Cozy bohemian Woodland Christmas tree
Ribbons, mushrooms, wooden creatures, oh my! Our first Christmas tree is up and I had a fantastic time with this one. The color palette was kept primarily in coppers and red with touches of gold and loads of wood tones. I used many of the round ornaments I purchased last year for the touches of color and then added several woodland themed ornaments. If you haven’t gone to Joann’s lately, the store is having a tremendous sale and I scored most of the woodland theme ornaments there. Tremendous as in…. buy 1 get 3 FREE!!! Yes, you read that correctly! I’m not sure how long the sale will last so check your local store to take full advantage of the sale.
I decided to tie bits of copper ribbon to the tree and let it hang freely throughout the tree. I think this gives the tree a more organic feel compared to bows or cascading ribbon. I do love both of those options, but the bow-less ties work better for this boho woodland tree. The DIY mushroom ornaments were such a fun addition to the tree. If you haven’t seen my Instagram video tutorial for these, you can catch it there and I’ll be sharing written directions soon. The bits of moss on the mushrooms are echoed on the mantel decor too.
The wood bead garland was handcrafted from India and scored at Homegoods. It made such a gorgeous addition to the tree. Not to mention the cutest little rattan house purses that look like a cross between toadstool and smurf houses.
Rustic Bohemian Mantel Decorating
It all started with these super cozy looking stockings. The mantel is a fun place to take chances in decorating. Whether it’s a long draping wintergreen garland or a wall of wreaths, the mantel is a good place to experiment with Christmas decorating. I wanted to bring in some of the global touches here on the mantel and found these carved trees in Homegoods. I love the touch of metallics on the small ones mixed with the mossy trees that light up.
The stocking holders were the perfect touch for the woodland theme. The gilded pinecones pick up the gold glitter of the mushrooms hanging on the stockings. I added two garlands together to make the mantel garland look much more full. Investing in some great faux garlands will help keep Christmas decor costs down each year. These garlands were on sale so I did go a little crazy buying, but I’m thankful I will avoid those costs next year.
Cozy Bohemian Christmas touches in the living room
Finally, the sofa got a bit of a color revamp for the winter. I desperately wanted to show how to incorporate yellow beyond the other 3 seasons since yellow is hardly used in the winter. I found the plaid yellow pillows and was over the moon when I found a perfectly coordinating pair of orange plaid pillows at Homegoods. Can you do cozy, winter with yellow?….. I think you definitely can!
Our living room is all set for Christmas and it’s so exciting to welcome this new theme this year. Be sure to check back later this week as I share more of this Christmas theme throughout my home. Plus, the Christmas decor inspiration continues to Just Destiny on Tuesday! So be sure to continue the holiday housewalk then.
Merry Christmas!
