Craft Paint Storage from Upcycled Cassette Tape Holder

Hola everyone!
I am so excited to start this week off with an upcycled organization project.  Organization is something that I have always appreciated.  I love a good looking, organized space. Since the kids were born, its been more difficult to maintain the house organized.  I know you parents out there know what I am talking about.  Well, it is time for SPRING CLEANING at Casa Watkins and I am kicking off my Spring cleaning with an upcycled storage solution for your craft paints.

I found this cassette tape holder while thrift shopping a couple of weeks ago.  I wasn’t looking for anything in particular that day, but when I saw the cassette tape holder for $2.00 I thought (1) OMG I think my Dad had one of these and (2) Hmmm I could use this somehow.  So, it came home with me and sat in my living room for two weeks.

I have been piling up on craft supplies and project items in my living room.  Not by choice per se, but my craft room isn’t ready yet.  My living room got to a point where it looked like I was a hoarder.  I started boxing all my things and taking them to the basement.   Well, lo and behold there was the cassette tape holder.  Now, I knew exactly what to do with!

I decided to use some of my current favorite paint colors to spruce up the tape holder.  I sprayed it with white spray paint then taped it off.  Here’s where I messed up and I’ll get to that in a second.

I wanted to paint vibrant color stripes.  I gave it two coats of acrylic paint and removed the paint to see this!  Nooooooooo.

I thought I had sprayed each side twice.  Turns out I missed a coat on the top.  I was distracted since Nugget had just woken up from his nap.  The bottom was done first so that I could bring it inside while the top dried.  The tape pulled off so many areas of the white paint that it took several minutes to touch up.  Note to self, be sure to paint each side twice.  After all the touch ups, I ended up with this pretty paint storage.

I absolutely love how this craft paint storage turned out.  The best part about this project is that I can stack the storage drawers if I happen to come across another one since they have the securing clips already on.  I also thought that this would be perfect to keep the kids flashcards and Tot school manipulatives.

I’m off to do more Spring cleaning.  Thanks so much for stopping by,
