How To Bring The Outdoors Inside For Spring
I’m excited to partner with Better Homes and Gardens on this post. All thoughts and opinions about the great decor are 100% my own. Let’s get decorating for spring!
The cold weather continues here in Maryland, but you wouldn’t be able to tell looking inside of my home. I’m bringing the outdoors inside for spring and using the awesome line of Better Homes and Gardens home decor to do it. My home has been receiving a few room refreshes over the last few weeks. I shared my living room refresh a few weeks ago and just yesterday shared my 3 quick spring changes to the living room. You may have noticed a lot of green in my home lately. Not only is it my favorite color to decorate with, but green decor and greenery accents create an incredibly welcoming space for spring. They also are great when creating an alfresco feel en casa (outdoors feel indoors). Here is how to bring the outdoors inside for spring with simple changes to your room.
Decorating With Natural Elements
The most important element in your alfresco en casa room are definitely plants. Plants instantly create the feel of the outdoors inside. If you are new to decorating with plants, I have a few Pinterest boards dedicated to plant care for brown thumbs like me and decorating with plants that you should check out. Believe me, it has taken a while for me to understand plants and keep them thriving. I’ve killed so many plants along the way, but I’m happy to report that my longest surviving plant is still thriving 3 years later.
Better Homes and Gardens Velvet Plush Fringe 50″ x 60″ Throw,
Two ways to utilize plants in your decor it to assemble a few groupings of plants around your room. I used Better Homes and Gardens Round Hyacinth Twist Handle Basket for my large plants and mixed them with my existing terra cotta planters for a bohemian feel. Be sure to insert one of those plastic planter plates on the bottom of your basket to catch the draining plant water. I got a couple for a few cents at my local hardware store.
A while back I saw some tuscan planters in a catalog for a big home decor retailer and they were super expensive. I shrieked with excitement to have found these fabulous looking tuscan 5” and 7” planters by Better Homes and Gardens. I used a couple to create a global eclectic style spring mantel. I also picked up these two new plants from Walmart while I was there! The Mediterranean vibes oozing from my spring mantel makes me feel like I’m on vacation in my own family room.
The outdoor feel is elevated even more with the increased space I created by switching to the Better Homes and Gardens Lafayette entertainment credenza. Not only does it have great storage for games, drinks, and movies, but the credenza also brings a beautiful outdoor wood finish. It reminds me of the stunning wood furniture you see on Mediterranean style patios.
Remember the colorful bright diamond pillow? Well, I played a little pillow swap and brought it into the family room. It adds so many pops of color to this new reading nook. Don’t forget about your table decor! Create a simple spring table vignette with airplants. I shared how to style spring trays on Monday and one of the inspirational pictures had a tray full of glass votives and plants. I used a set of Better Homes and Gardens hurricane glass votives mixed with mason jars I already owned on a Better Homes and Gardens Acacia Tray. Stand the votives upward or on it’s side to showcase air plants and leaf springs. Add a few votive candles to the mix and you have one stunning table centerpiece. All I’m missing is a fresh springy drink!
This spring, bring the outdoors inside with Better Homes and Garden style! Happy Decorating!

Your home really does have strong mediterranean vibes! I absolutely love it. I’ll have to pick up a few more terra cotta planters. I had forgotten how much I love their look.

Thank you so much Kaycee. Once you start with these air plants you can’t stop! lol.
Bringing plants indoors always changes up a room. Your living room looks great. I especially like the air plants on the wooden tray. I need to buy me some of those.
Thank you so much Nancy! Plants are super contagious though. Once you start with one and they survive, you just keep getting more. lol!!
I love the look of plants indoors, but I always kill them. If I want some inside, I have to find some realistic looking fake ones…that way they can survive! LOL Love and hugs! Hope you are doing well!
Aww Thank you Benita. LOL! I have been learning little by little how to care for plants. Believe me, I have some plants…. a lot of plants…..that didn’t make it. :/
