How To Bring Hygge To Your Mantel
Welcome to another The Global Styler post! Every first monday of the month, Kathy of Up To Date Interiors, Corinna of A Designer At Home, and Jessica of House Homemade come together to share home decorating tips and ideas with a global flair. This month, we are sharing about the Danish concept of Hygge that is sweeping the home decorating world. If you haven’t heard of this concept, don’t fret. I honestly had heard it, but didn’t know what it was. After googling it, I’ve found that it is one of the most tranquil and family centered concepts ever.
What’s with Hygge anyway?
The concept of hygge centers on the appreciation of little pleasures and placing attention to what is most significant in our lives. Friendships, relationships, taking pleasure in cozy areas and soothing things reigns supreme in hygge. I’ve seen hygge emphasized during the winter months. Cozy blankets, coffee mugs, and super comfy socks are great ways to bring hygge to your home during the winter. For the spring, it’s all about spending time with friends and family, enjoying the outdoors, appreciating cozy areas, and bringing nature indoors.
Bring Hygge Style To Mantels
Our family room is the hub of our home. We spend our family time, entertain, watch movies, and more just in this room alone. For me, it made perfect sense to bring in a more hygge style into the family room. Here are simple ways you can bring hygge style to your spring mantel.
Incorporate family heirlooms like trays, jars, or glasses to create a sense of family. This not only makes your space feel more cozy and homey, but also can spark conversations while entertaining. My mother gifted these silver trays to me a few years ago, and I try to have them showcased around the house as often as possible. They are super stylish, but also remind me to call her. I’m such a bad phone call person. I’d rather see people in person, so I often forget to keep in contact with people via telephone.
Candles are really emphasized for hygge style and for good reason. Candles have always created a cozy feeling. Incorporating as many candles as you safely can is an instant hygge creator. I also used candles on the coffee table to create a spring tray vignette. (see that post here).
Fresh flowers brings the outdoors inside. Place them in clear or plain vases so as not to distract from the beauty of the flowers. Of course, I couldn’t go without a little plant. I continued the clear container look with the Indian bead containers.

So pretty! You are the queen of styling!
I just love how you styled your mantel with hygginess! The candle light must be so pretty against those gorgeous silver trays and your flowers and little details are perfect.
Thanks so much Kathy!!!! Love styling a mantel and now that I know about hygge I may continue with it. I just have to get over the minimalism. lol.
I absolutely adore those silver trays, and that tassel just adds some extra oomph. And that morrocan-inspired mirror is gorgeous. Beautiful styling, my friend.
Thank you so much Erica! Can’t go wrong with a tassel right. 🙂
