FINALLY! I’ve been talking for years about my family room needing a makeover and now the work has officially begun with an all new paint transformation. We all know that paint can do wonders in a room, but it’s kicked up more than a notch when it’s coupled with a cool 3D wall treatment and decor pieces from The Home Depot. Check out my new blue living room walls and stay tuned for the details on how you can transform your space with a giftcard from The Home Depot!
Behr Paint At The Home Depot
I’ve been pretty busy this summer with the kiddos and heading out each day is not something I can easily do. I was ecstatic to find that I can browse paint colors and order paint from both The Home Depot website and the Project Color app by The Home Depot. Seeing that I’m super indecisive with paint choices, it was so much better to browse paints online rather than in store with two kids in tow. I’ve stayed as much as 2 hours in the paint aisle in the past!
This time around, I was prepped and ready to tackle my history of paint decision paralysis. I downloaded the Project Color app and browsed it for some color inspiration. You can even scan a picture into the app and it will provide paint colors that match and coordinate! How helpful is that! This family room needed some serious color-therapy.
The Perfect Dark Teal Paint
I was looking for a dark teal paint color for the living room that coordinated with the beautiful Parrot art I had in the room. You wouldn’t believe how many shades of teal are available! Behr’s Ocean Abyss (which I am over the moon about) was calling my name. I love the richness of the blue teal and it matches the teal from the dining room chairs.
DECORATOR’S TIP: You can create better cohesion in your home by pulling colors from other areas of an open layout home.
The kids and I headed to The Home Depot and OMG did they love going to the paint department. They loved checking out all the paint colors and planning their own room makeovers. We scanned paint chips in the in-store Color Center and were able to see how the paint looked in several different rooms instantly! The color combinations the kids chose were…… let’s just say…unique.
By the way, The Home Depot will be having an amazing Labor Day Paint Savings Event starting August 29th – which is the best time to shop the best brands like Behr. Now’s the time to transform that room you’ve been eyeing for a while, or, simply bring a fresh Fall vibe to your home.
I raced home with paint cans, brushes, and tarps in hand ready to tackle my living room makeover. I love seeing rooms transformed in a matter of minutes with paint. The Ocean Abyss color I chose was part of the Behr Marquee line which doesn’t require more than one coat. I repeat… ONE COAT! I tackled that painting job in one night after the kids went to bed. Less distractions and snack requests that way, #mommasgettingitdone.
Modern 3D Decorative Wall Panels
Then, it was time to tackle the 3D accent wall. This was probably one of the most fun walls I’ve ever created. I ordered several boxes of the 3D decorative wall panels and installed them to the new living room feature wall. The installation was quite easy but it did take us 2 days to do since we stopped for a birthday party and church that weekend.
How amazing does that wall look! Such a unique and modern accent wall that took our living room to a new level. Though the white color was nice, it was too stark for the room. Adding a splash of Behr’s Alice White paint right down the middle was the perfect way to warm up the stark white wall.
DECORATOR’S TIP: Color blocking a wall allows you to have the best of both colors in a modern way.
Modern Eclectic Furniture
The room needed a little decor makeover after the big paint transformation. The Home Depot has truly become a one-stop shop for all things home. I found a great two-tiered brass coffee table that dramatically lightens the heaviness of the leather sofas. Plus, it adds that glam eclectic style you know we love at Casa Watkins. This table is a must have when you want to make a small room look bigger.
DECORATOR’S TIP: Adding decor to the second tier grounds the decor and gives the illusion that the room is larger than it is. So does the new dark walls by the way!
The coffee table couldn’t be updated without the side table. I found a super chic Home Decorators Collection round end table that screams modern bohemian. The washed oak finish and nailheads complement the sofas so well and it’s quite sturdy (a necessary element for a clumsy family). I definitely recommend shopping the online home decor selections from The Home Depot. There’s such a vast selection and it can be delivered to the store for pick-up or right to your door!
I’m so excited with the new living room color combination. A few art pieces and it’ll be completely done. You can kick off your own room makeover with The Home Depot and Casa Watkins Living by entering my giveaway for a $150 The Home Depot gift card. Two winners will be chosen, so be sure to head to my Instagram account to enter before time runs out!
Don’t forget to shop Labor Day Savings at The Home Depot shop online for the Labor Day Savings Event kicking off August 29th through September 8th! There is $10 off 1 gallon of paint and $40 off for 3 and 5 paint gallons. What a deal!
It looks amazing! That 3D wall is so gorgeous with the Alice blue!!
Thank you so much! I really love how much texture it adds to the room. 🙂
Totally love your new room. The 3D panels add so much lovely texture. I’m checking them out for my humble abode. Congrats, Steph. ~~ Susie from The Chelsea Project
Thank you Susie! You’re going to love them! They definitely add character to a space.
Oh my gosh I freaking love what you did in here. The color is gorgeous and those 3D panels are so cool!
Thank you Corinna! I am in love with these panels and blue color. Such a dramatic change from the beige. 🙂
If you saw my dining room, you know I’m crushing hard on teal blues right now. LOVE what you did! And those decorative panels are so much fun.
Thank you Ariel! Right! I saw it and looooove your dining room too!
Wow, awesome color! Did you find that the color paint app worked well to give an accurate look of the color – in other words, does it eliminate the need to paint a swatch of wall to see how it looks? We’ve had people say to paint a swatch first to see how it looks, but who has time for that anymore?! – we sure don’t. So, we didn’t use a paint app in our last painting project (we didn’t paint a swatch either), so… the color came out different than we expected. So I’m thinking I need to use the paint app next time!! Thx for your pointers.
Thank you Vera. Yes, it eliminates the need for the paint swatch since you can also virtually paint the wall using your phone camera too! Though, if you have lots of varying light in your home, you may still want to see how the color looks on the wall itself since lighting can effect the look of the color.
Those 3D panels are ahhhhhmazing! Love it all and that blue is perfection.
